Trying to figure out a price / what else is needed to be done. Would $3000 be a low ball?
Friend of a friend, they are the original owners, affluent family who always took it to the dealer and are finally getting a new 200, 290k miles currently. FL vehicle, no rust, no accidents. Regular fluid changes (brake, trans, PS) and a lot of history on the Toyota Care site.

Leather seats need to be reconditioned badly (their kids did a number) no tears in the seats though. the exterior is immaculate and it has newer LX wheels, which arent bad looking tbqh.

Timing Belt and Water pump were done about 60k ago.

Major things that have been done:
in 2015:
Ignition Coils
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter

2014:
new bulbs up front rear
Front and Rear brake rotors, pads, shims
Left front axle/cv boot replaced
Radiator, cap and hoses
Antenna

2013:
AC condenser, o rings, recharge
Battery and terminals
drive belt and tensioner

2012:
power steering rack, hoses, pump
rear UCAs and bushings
Heater Ts

$3k sounds low but i'm sure wilder things have happened. probably gonna depend on what the dealer would give them for a trade in...might not be much different than that but who knows how they might structure the deal to close them on a new one. if they're not getting rid of it due to a pending repair i'd say this sounds like a decent idea, depending on your intentions for it. when looking at used cars i always like to ask the seller if there is anything they are aware of that needs to be addressed now or within the next 6 months. good luck.

They are upgrading to the new 200 because "its time", not due to any mechanical issues with the 100 other than the CD player not working. Which I would replace regardless with a bluetooth touchscreen.

Thats a good idea to see if they have an offer from the dealer, but she specifically said they did not want to trade it in and that she wants it to go to a friend/good home. $3k may seem low, might as well ask. A 1999 with 190k I was looking at in similar condition was $5.5k from a dealer. Ended up not going for it, but thats where I was basing my price off.

Assuming you can access the history, you can see what need to be done as far as scheduled maintenance. If nothing major/expensive items are needed, I think it is a good deal, and I would buy it at $3K even at 290K miles. The only problem I see are dirty leather and carpets, which can be cleaned. No rips in the leather is a good thing.

Have you driven the car? Does it rides good?

Good luck!

Going to stop by after the holiday for a drive. 3k seems low but I was guessing. KBB is 4-5k and I figured since theyre motivated and not really caring about the money I could get it lower. I'll see if I can get a price from them this weekend. I ran through what has been done and I dont see anything major thats left for the next 100k miles, unless I overlooked something. Im no mechanic :)

Why not ask them what they want for it? If they are friends, you would be better off just not buying it if they wanted too much. If you rub them the wrong way by low-balling them, they might think you are a dick, and it changes the friendship. Not worth it...

* - unless they already think you are a dick, and like you anyway!

** - just kidding!
