Truck has 227k miles - I bought it new and love it.

I put the OME suspension (which I really like) - now I have torn boots and a leak
I have play at 6 & 12
I have a squeak as the wheel turns

I think I want to replace the cv axles with OEM just cause they have 227k on them and it looks like they are way ahead of napa's.
I know nothing about the diff drop - do I need it or will the new CV axle's be OK and not tear cause they don't already have 227K on them?

I think I need a knuckle bearing kit (dealer told me that because of 6 & 12 play)
I think I need new wheel bearings
I know I'll need a 54mm socket!!
I do not have a FSM - where is the best (cheapest) place to buy?

What else do I need to do while I am in there?

I don't mind doing this myself although parts are hardly available even locally. I am going to my local dealer in the morning to find out what the total cost might be if they do it.

I read yesterday all about cv's here, and wheel bearings and really appreciate all the knowledge between all of you.

Is SOR still the place to go for parts?

Thanks kindly for any info!

Where are you located? Many cities have "cruiser friendly" dealers that can really help out on parts prices for the DIY'er. I haven't bought anything but seat covers from SOR in years and years. YMMV. I got tired of their 1950's shipping policies and pricing, not worth the hassle unless they're the only game in town for something. If you're running the OME, conventional wisdom is to put the diff drop in to return the CV angles closer to stock. As to the squeak when the whell turns, there are many possible causes. Is it under/in the dash sounding? Could be clock-spring under the air bad (I have it, and deal with it). Or are you talking more from the outside/underside of the rig?

I'm in Albuquerque and Dan at Larry Miller is great, as I see from this site. Might be that the locals get the higher price vs. the internet buyers I don't know. I get my truck serviced there for the most part, but these CV axles are 460 each - 375 with High Desert Cruiser membership, and 300 at sor with their membership. The squeak is right at the wheel and varies with wheel turning both froward and as I turn left and right.

SOR was great years ago with both my 60 and 40 - have not shopped in years though. There website is crazy.

Thanks for your help.
