Hey guys...there is a great debate over in anthoer Toyota site.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on Land Cruiser/Lx570 vs Sequioa. Some are saying the 200 series is outdated because of the solid rear axle and lack of fold flat seating in the rear. Another claims that the Platinum is a luxury vehicle....just wondering what you guys think.

I have noticed while the Sequioa can tow a lot and fold flat its rear third row...but what it makes up for in function it loses in payload, materials and fine details..
 
Sequoia is designed for the USA. It is aimed at the Tahoe/Expedition crowd. Focus on towing, road trips & people hauling. It is not an offroader and Toyota is the first to admit that.

200 is a worldwide market suv designed for offroading.

Solid axle is not outdated. It is appropriate for the job. It is more durable, allows more articulation and better control offroad.

IRS is appropriate for the road duty defined for the Sequoia- it allows for more interior room (ie, the fold flat rr seats) as well as better on-road ride.

These are two different market vehicles. If you need one, than you don't need the other.

Ask those guys why they think the new Tundra, the workhorse version of the Sequoia, has a solid rear axle.
 
I agree with Shotts---they are two different vehicles. I have not bought a 200---yet----but what I like about the 100 Land Cruiser is that it has all the luxury you could ever want in town (in Houston there are some big pot holes) and when I take it to the country it will go any where I want when I want with an unbelievable amount of comfort. As Scotts says it is the ultimate off-road vehicle while drinking coffee --I would add beer so it would be nice to have the cooler box in the 200. The 2008 Sequoia is a much bigger vehicle with a different purpose i.e a great SUV for my wife. I still think I am going to get her a 200 because when I drive her car if I got the Sequoia Platinum I would be pissed I did not spend the extra 10k and get the Land Cruiser.

The best example I can give you is that you will very rarely find someone who bought a Land Cruiser say that they wish they had bought a Sequoia (unless it is for the room) but I guarantee you there are allot of guys who bought Sequoias that wish they had bought the Land Cruiser.
 
I bet there will be a lot of people wishing for the Sequoia in a couple years when they have Diesel power and the 200 doesn't.
The new Sequoia's are NICE. They are a huge difference from the last generation.

I fell squarely in that category as I traded a '01 Sequoia for a '06 LC. No comparison.

You and some wheelers might want diesels. I think most American's who buy a vehicle of this type will not. Stinky, diesel cost too much with little mileage beneift around town. THE KILLER? THE TEST DRIVE! Drive a diesel....hmmmm, get into the 5.7........SOLD! Diesel sucks!

But isn't 8.2 still quicker than a pre VVTi 100 ??
While more power is always great, I never have felt that the 4.7 was "under powered". I didn't get the LC for speed. Quality, reliability, capability and heritage is why I decided on a LC.

I have the AMG for speed !!

Don't you guys think both these vehicles are getting way to large? For off road you normally want a smaller lighter vehicle and with the cost of fuel everyone wants something that gets better mpg (atleast 20 mpg around town). Also who is going to take a $70K vehicle anywhere that the 200 series is capable of going. The new LC makes sense like the 100 series does after it is around 4-5 years old and has depreciated $40K

If I don't pay my 100 off early, it will cost me the same as a new one. I plan on paying off early. So, in essense, I am taking a $70K vehicle off road right now. I bought it for exploring, not just driving on pavement. I think there are some who will definitely modify their 200 for off roading as well. The vehicle was designed to be used off road, and to ride in comfort doing so. I think the 200 is too large, yes. I felt the 100 is really maxed out what I would want in an off road vehicle.

To compare the Sequoia to a Land Cruiser, well there is just nothing to compare. The Land Cruiser is an off road vehicle, and the Sequoia is a mini-van in disguise.
