Don't you guys think both these vehicles are getting way to large? For off road you normally want a smaller lighter vehicle and with the cost of fuel everyone wants something that gets better mpg (atleast 20 mpg around town). Also who is going to take a $70K vehicle anywhere that the 200 series is capable of going. The new LC makes sense like the 100 series does after it is around 4-5 years old and has depreciated $40K

Yes, too large. The width really hurts. Places where my old '86 runner will clear will leave scratches on the side of the 100, or worse. Toyota does make mid and short wheelbase LC's (Prado 4-door and 2-door) and LC70 series 4-door and 2-door, but they're only sold overseas. The Prado series is deemed a "light" offroad vehicle, while the 70 is considered the workhorse. Closest thing here would be the GX470 or 4runner or FJC. I think the 4runner has a smaller turning radius than the FJC and feels about the right size on the outside at least.

If you want smaller...consider the FJ

I'd take a 4Runner before I would ever consider an FJC. FJC's are way too "trendy" for my taste. I had to educate someone the other day that the FJC is NOT a Land Cruiser. :bang:

Oh, and BTW, don't leave out the TJ Unlimited Rubi as far as "smaller" utes go.

The interior fit & finish of the 4runner is far better than that of the FJC. The interior plastic in the FJC is really cheesy, reminds me of domestics, plus visibility out the windshield and rear quarter is dismal. The only advantage I'd give it is more aftermarket parts available, manual tranny, and rear diff lock (at least you can now get a ARB winchbar for the 4runner!). Has anyone seen the FJ Runner concept car? The rear quarter windows are like on the 4runner...gets rid of the rear visibility problem.

I think the FJ is actually a land cruiser. Part of the 90 series. Over at Toyota.com Land Cruiser heritage Toyota talks about the FJ along with the other series of vehicles.

Haven't we had this discussion before ? Let me repeat, until Toyota places an L between the J & C it's not "officially" a Land Cruiser, no matter what you try to convince yourself of. Just because someone in the mkt dept wants to have a play on words to try and convince you that the FJC is somehow related to the LC doesn't necessarily mean it's so. I gues "technically" , under those pretences the 4runner AND GX are LC's as well ? I think we are preaching to the choir, on this one !! So then, where does the PT Cruiser fit in all of this ?? :bang: :bang:

The PT Cruiser is an SUV (the non-convertable). :D

Not only that, but the prefix "FJ" or "FZJ" or "UZJ" denotes the engine in the vehicle. So the FJC should be something like the GRJ-12x if it were a 120-series landcruiser. Just tells ya how much marketers know about LC history.

Maybe you meant the LR2. The LR3 is definitely not smaller. I have one sitting in my driveway that I've been trying to sell since 9/07. It has more practical cargo room than my 100. Stock, it is probably just as capable off road since it has lockers all around. BUT.....will it last as long? No way. Is it engineered as robustly, not even close. I'm in for the long haul......thats why I'm trying to get out from underneath that heap.

You have an LR3 with locking differentials all around?

Well....to be clear, center and rear. The rear locker was part of an optional Heavy Duty package.

I'm no hardcore off-roader by any stretch of the imagination, but I was able to go up and down this in Sedona very easily. LR3 is 100% stock with cr@p tires.
I'm sure this is baby-grade stuff, but to me it was pretty cool.
The pic doesn't do the angle any justice.

If it did not rattle after that down hill then LR is building a lot better product then they use to build.

Very nice pic! Looks like fun.

I have been driving my friends 2008 Sequoia for the past 2 days. Very nice vehicle, but here are my observations.

It seems VERY large. While driving it, it feels like my 2007 Yukon Denali XL. Just very long, big and wide. I am not sure of it's actual dimensions, but that is the way it feels.

It seems to sway more then my LC. Not as tight on turns etc.

I have a hard time seeing everything out the windshield and side windows. Don't know why...just a weird feeling.

Obviously I am biased, but I like driving it for a family vehicle. But with my very limited off road experiance, I would have a hard time navigating it off road. It seems to hide it's size from the inside view and therefore I would
have a hard time judging angles from inside.

Plus sitting in the drivers seat, it just feels HUGE inside. I feel like I am drowning in the front area.

I will stick with my LC :)
