Maybe a noob question but I’m looking at buying an LC200. Did Toyota ever fix the issue with the starters or do they all have the same issue? Specifically I am weighing between buying a 2008-11, or buying a 2013-15. Some of them don’t seem to have a very big price difference so I’m wondering if there is any meaningful mechanical differences made that would be worth going for the 13-15. I’m new to the forum so if this there’s needs to be moved somewhere else lmk. TIA

There is a revised starter that is smaller but starters still wear out. Don’t make your purchase decision based on the starter 🙃
Of course not! Obviously minor in the grand scheme of things. I guess it’s more of a broad question on if the 13-15 fixed any of the (granted, extremely few) known issues. If they did, it would be worth it to me to pay a few grand more to not have the extra hassle, because I know I am the type of person that will work on my own car because I can never justify the insane labor rates

No starter advantage on that year range.

13-15 does have significantly improved headlamp performance though, with the introduction of HIDs. 16+ went to even better LEDs but are a whole different price bracket.

On the starter.. it’s a factor, but unless you regularly travel solo to places that you’d be in danger if the vehicle won’t start, I don’t consider it a major issue.

Thanks. The headlight update would be nice, though I am used to crappy Toyota halogens from my tundra already so that alone is not a crazy deal breaker for me 😂. Somewhat unrelated, but do you know how difficult it would be to retrofit 13-15 headlights and bumper onto an 08-11?

I haven’t read into it but there is a recent thread on that topic exactly.

You forgot coolant valley. o_O

I replaced my radiator but that didn’t fix my cam towers.

As far as I know, the starter is just fine. It’s just that people keep these things forever, so it eventually becomes a wear item. The “issue” with it is that Toyota made it extremely difficult to reach.

We’re at 192k, and we still start the wife’s 570 twice every morning thanks to Toyota’s awesome remote start that kills the truck when you open the door.
