I'm trying to move a set of OEM mags from a 2021 LC to a 2014 LC.
The rear pair fit OK, but the front pair seat very tight (have to tap the wheel onto the hub with a rubber mallet) and the center cap won't seat all the way and lock due to the domed axle grease cap.
Is that domed grease cap really necessary?
Can't I just replace it with a flat Tundra grease cap?
I can trim the center cap tabs to make them seat and lock in place, but I'd be leaving minimal plastic.
Any input appreciated.

I don’t know about the center cap, but I wonder if the tight hub fit is due to corrosion. The hub metal interacts with the wheel metal in salty areas and can really bind things up.

No, the cap is not necessary. The wheel hubs get rusty/crusty so aesthetically it needs to be there. But it doesn't do much than protect the surface, nut and shaft end. We've run without them for maaaaaany years with zero issues.

Trimming the vanity cap to fit has been discussed here before, but I just got some 17 wheels for my 13.. and yes the cap won’t fit but it seems even the wheel barrel is too tight to fit over the hub nut cap cleanly.

I’ll take some pictures when I get a chance.

I found this old post this morning; I will try to get these caps and see if it works. Same wheels as the ones I'm working with.

So my pair of caps arrived Saturday morning from Yiyanto ($21.89/pr Amazon Prime). Easy install and then tested with my spare off the 2019. Perfect fit for wheel and the center cap popped right on, no tab trimming required. This is a great fix for just pocket change. The new cap has a flat 3/4' rim all the way around and a lower. less pronounced dome in the center. Sort of a "top-hat" contour.

How do I get the old caps off? Chisel?
Put a few drops of penetrating oil like Kroil on top and let it run down the seam. Use a very thin chisel or old screwdriver to gently tap around the seam. Give it a minute or two. I’ve now down this on three cars the past few weekends and some pop right off and others take a few minutes. Go slow. Clean up the hub barrel with a wire brush while you are waiting for the penetrating fluid to work. For some reason the hub barrel on the passenger side of all three vehicles had the most corrosion. A small wire wheel cleans it right up and the new wheels seated just fine on the barrel. I coated and wiped the hub barrel with Fuel Film to prevent future corrosion.

We did another one this morning, a 2013 LC. Here’s some pics with a test fit of a 2019 rim.

Yes, the TOYO logo and TRD center caps fit without having to trim their tabs.
