Very Nice !!!!!!!!

im about to be at the very same point...... hopefully on both fronts.

WHat year is the TDI? Is it manual or automagic? What kind of fuel economy are you getting with the TDI?

I took a 2012 base jetta TDI for a test drive the other day. What a great car. It was a 6 speed manual and loads of fun.

Congrats on the 250k. I am approaching 200k on the 100.

I've got a '12 Golf 4dr w/6 speed manual. I'm averaging 40 mpg since I bought it (~6k) and usually 42 mpg on my daily commute to Durham. Its very surprising how quick it is, love the handling and all the "bells & whistles", although, I've always been a VW fan...

We had an '02 Jetta TDI, bought new, until about a year ago. Got great mileage and was a great vehicle as soon as the warranty was over and we could go anywhere for service. Can't say much good about the two local VW dealers/service centers, though. Only sold it 'cause the wife wanted a Lexus, we had a buyer already, and it was almost time for a 3rd tranny. I'd have sold it at 40,000 miles when the paint started lifting off and they told me that I must have repainted it and done a poor job if it was up to me, but the wife loved the car. I can write a book on the idiocy of VW. Hope your experiences are better. Sister in law just got a 2010 Jetta with a stick and loves it.

I'm curious if any of ya'll only got 70,000 miles on a tranny? Automatic.

2012 Golf TDi with the DSG. I only have ~350mi on it but the computer is saying 40.9mpg so far, and that's with me going through the break-in cycle.

I thought the DSG was your typical automated-manual - but it ain't. It's a full 6-spd manual transmission, clutch and all, that is managed via solenoids and valves instead of a pedal and hydraulic system. You can definitely tell when driving it, and imho it's as fun to drive as the manual 6-speed Jerry has (which I test drove and loved). I went this route so Susana could drive it too, she doesn't drive manuals.

I was a bit leery of buying VW. Thankfully the Golf TDi is made in Germany, not Mexico, so I'm hopeful. Not at all worried about the engine though.

It really is a hoot to drive, and as Jerry mentioned the bells and whistles are surprisingly nice.

nice nice nice...... I think we will be at that point or Andrea sooner or later. I've been looking at some 03's lately. From what i've read on the tdi forums those seem to be the most bullet proof engine or transmission wise (as long as you get the manual) and normally return in the 50's for mpg. They don't handle nearly as well as the new ones or are nearly as fast or that matter so I guess it will come down to what the :princess: likes the best.

When is the banks kit going on joe??

My wife daily drives a '02 diesel Jetta, she got it right before we got married. Just before she picked it up it got a new engine courtesy of the local dealership after the engine blew after they botched a timing belt replacement for the PO. That was at around 70,000. The car now has 116,000 miles on the original automatic tranny, still shifts smooth with no signs of failing at all, but I know it's coming. She consistently gets around 42 miles per gallon. My dad has a '89 non turbo diesel jetta 5 speed that gets around 51 miles per gallon. Congrats on the mileage Joe, you will love the VW.
