I could never get sufficient isolation between the two, but I didn't have my heart in it.

In practice if there are any rigs running 2M we spread them out in the group. Then I turn the CB off.

This is kinda of my fear. Thanks for the input. All I know is for the meantime I will have both CB and 2m in my rig.... may just have to turn off one or the other depending on whats going on.

Keeping you CB antenna away from your HAM ant. (yay/nay). Running on different hz and power etc, probably should keep them off the same side of the truck... in other words using a hatch mount, should not put them on the same side? or would it be tolerable?

On my FJC with the 2M antenna on the roof and the cb antenna on the front bumper, the 2M will always break squelch on the cb, and the radios are pretty far apart and both runs of coax are completely different/separated by several feet.

On my 40, both antennas are in the rear and fairly close (one on the spare tire mount and one on the neighboring jerry can basket) but the 2M never breaks squelch on the cb.

What may be the biggest contributing factor is the different cb radios in each truck, a Cobra 75 in the FJC and a Uniden 78 in the 40. I suspect that the little Cobra just doesn't have the shielding that the larger Uniden does. I also have ferrite chokes on both ends of the cb coax in the 40 and took extra care to ground the exhaust system and the basket the antenna is mounted on, so that may help too.

Probably more about the chokes on the 40 than any other factor. If I really wanted to run both radios I'd start by building a notch filter for the CB that would block the 2M band.

Probably so. I found out in a hurry that a 40 (mine anyway) is way more electrically noisy than any other vehicle I've had in a long time.

That would be cool, but I'm like you and don't generally run both at the same time unless I have to anyway.
