2 link and panhard?

I have the front of my cruiser apart and I am going to do coilovers or airshocks I was wondering if this would work for the control arms make them into a y and where it meets the axle at the bottom use a leafspring bushing and at the top of the axle use a heim to make for adjustabilty and will this work if I just use a panhard going to be driving on the street also 60%of the time and if anone has some good pics of there front links I would like to see them thanks

sounds like a good description of radius arms...sounds like a good description of the front of an 80 series. am I missing something (I'm not really a student of suspension design)?

as to will it work...look at the radius arms and mounts on an 80 series to get an idea of the beef required to make this safe...

Yes that is a radius arm design. Keep in mind that running a y on both links will limit rotation of the axle in extreme flex. Some make different methods to allow axle rotation (making housing able to rotate, removable upper piece of y on one side, etc.) The panhard will cause some jacking effects during articulation, but you can't get around unless you change to another method of side to side axle location.

I guess the big fat bushings in the 80 series design allow an adequate amount of axle rotation?

Mine works peachy. Love it, and it helped me keep the rig and the motor low to the ground to not have upper control arms in the way.

thanks for the input I am kind of modeling it after the samuria we built I also forgot on the 1 side there is a slip joint in the y just a smaller dia.pipe stuffed in what are some better ways to get rid of the panhard bar I was thinking of a Y link in the front but dont think it will fit. I dont really want to lift anymore than what I have which is 4" springs and 1"longer shackles but I want to be real flexy and has anyone tried out those 2.5" foxes yet?

if I use ylinks in the front can I just slevee one of the conections at the axle for rotation and if I can Is that safe

ZJ and XJ guys run two lowers with a small adjustable upper for caster angle control. With a panhard.

A good buddy runs this setup with long arms, 6" lift coils with 35's on his ZJ. It flexes very, very well.

Okay now I have a coilover ? was looking at the swayaways do I need the dual rate kit ?and are the 2" x14" big enoueh I just would like to run 36"to 38"

Here is a pic of my previous link setup with panhard. Very much like you describe. This was chosen because with headers a true 4 link isn't possible. I have since changed to full four link using a stock exhaust manifold.

Mike's pictures are a much nicer version of what I was attempting to describe.

Can be done with rubber bushings (except upper) as well, thats how my friends is, and it works great. Just FYI.

I ran heims except the top link at the axle. Those are some lame trail rated vehicle bushings. If you run all bushings I fear they will wear and get sloppy fast. I know my uppers were trashed early. Later I did pull one of the uppers and ran it as a three. Flexed more, but with that kinda travel, it wasn't needed.

how did that run like that would it be decent to drive on the street a little. And with the heims at both ends of the upper part of the y do you still need a slip joint or do they fix the problem

Who are you asking?

Yes a two-link with single upper and bushings everywhere but on the upper is fine for the street.

Once bugs are worked out, it is easily liveable as a DD. Bushings wearing is something to think about, my friend has not had his long enough (6 months) to really guage that.
