Been lurking around here off and on over the years. This is my 8th toyota but first LC. Its the dreaded tranny eat'n 2000 with 150K miles and in near perfect condition for $10.5K. My plan is to just go through and replace what is needed not a "SHANE" make over, however I spoke with him on the phone about some new covers. PO did the TB, water pump, all 8 coil pacs, CV boots, brakes, tranny flush, etc etc. at 125K miles. I think it could use some new shocks, which means might as well lift it first, so researching threads on which direction to go on that. Also would like to go with a wider off set wheel for a more aggressive stance and stability. Also seems to have a little drive train noise possibly coming from hub assembly?? Could just be the AWD as I don't know what they sound like new, but my bet is it didn't come that way.
Anyway, looking forward to spending some time hear BS'n with you guys..............Later........CRAB
P.S. Here's where I spend most of my time....Bronco Chat - ClassicBroncos.com Forums

let me be the first to welcome you :flipoff2:

sounds like you got a bangin deal!

i dont think the "AWD" should sound like anything, mine is invisible and everything i've heard and read is that it works un-detected. so maybe you are right about the hubs - repacking the bearings is a PM for a good reason I think - you may need new bearings and races...

Welcome, Craabs. Post up some pics or be banned! :flipoff2: And as for sounds from the AWD, all that causes is the notorious LC "clunk" on power on or power off. What kind of drivetrain noise are you experiencing? As for the shocks and spacers, slee offroad sells both of those. I've heard good things about their work.

Enjoy your 100!

Fixed it for ya;)

Glad to see you made here.

Here is the thread I was talking about '81 Resto

And yes early Bronco's cool and welcome here (someplace)

Thanks guys,
I'll get some pics up this afternoon. I'll have to drive it again today and try to pinpoint the noise but sounds just like the hub assembly on my wife's V70R wagon. Sounds like the LC just has wheel bearings which I hope is true and will probably go there first. I've got a buddy that has a lift in his shop, so we'll get it up in the air this weekend to get a better look at the rest. There were no drips on the PO's garage floor, which was a good sign.
What do you guys recommend on lift? Eventually would like to evolve into a "street friendly luxury crawler" like the grey one one here with the Slee bumpers (I'll have to look that one up again). But for now just want a nice reliable driver.
Thanks............CRAB

Welcome!

Craabs,

Check out my sig line for 100 build. You can see my before and after lift pics and will have more pics this weekend after new wheel and 285's

Like every other 100 owner, I'm watching your resto every day.
I'm leaning towards the Slee 2 1/2" Heavy Load lift as I will be pulling my 4000lb boat on occasion, unless air bags would be a better choice for the weight? How are the shocks in this kit? I've been really happy with the Bilstein 5100's on my Super Duty and Dodge diesel trucks and was wondering how they would be on the LC ? I'll go through some threads but leaning towards 33"' Toyo M/T's unless they're just to much strain on the drive train for a daily driver. I've run several sets of 35's on my diesels and love the tire.

the sport shocks are great. They are stiffer than OEM and standard OME shocks but if you have a loaded rig they will handle the weight a bit better. The huge factor is springs. There are quite a few and everybody has there own opinions. I run bilstein's on a lifted 100 with OME 866 rear coils and they ride great. 33" tires, you'll be fine. you can run 285/75/16 with no rubbing. 295's (which i run) with minimal rubbing at full lock and just a touch at full articulation in the rear (not sure if anybody else rubs, but I do). You can run 35" but they will cost you. You'll need to do quite a bit to get them in there (lift, body lift, etc). Are you planning a rear bumper? I know it may be to soon to tell if you want a rear bumper, but that also effects what springs you will need/want. Especially towing. where are you located?

I live in Pacific City, a small fish'n town on the NW Oregon Coast. I've been restoring and building '66-'77 bronco's for years and currently have a '73 Crawler with 38.5X14.5 TSL SX's, fourlink rear, 14" King coil over front, 351w ect...and a '68 w/a heavily modified fuel injected 351/427ci stroker for the dunes along with a couple other "projects". So I like to "tinker". The LC is just a spare runaround that will take the family where we need to go and pull the boat. 33's will be plenty and may just stick with 285/295. Do you know if wheel spacers will fix the rubbing problem on the 295/33's? I really like the looks of the Slee bumpers but will probably stick with the stock ones for now as it will be more of a true grocery getter needing access to the rear hatch regularly. Does the tire carrier come off easily on the Slee?

adjusting the steering stops would be a quick fix. Not sure about wheel spacers as I don't run them nor know anything about them. Although moving the tire further away from the frame would seem to help.

I wouldn't run wheel spacers with 295's. I know somebody will say something about this post. But when the front wheels are stuffed, and you turn. The 295's are almost touching the fender (less than 2mm). i have a picture of it on my computer. They also like to grind on my wiper fluid shield. So wheel spacers may stop the rubbing, but may cuase other issues.

I think that you will quickly get addicted to your 100 series

Gotta love those vintage broncos!

Hey, this is a Land Cruiser forum. I accidently post a pic of a couple old bronco's and several pics of my new LC and the first reply is "gotta love those vintage broncos"?? I'm loving this site more every day!!

Thats one ugly steering wheel.

Seriously, lol. You need to get rid of that steering wheel cover immediately. No, I mean like ACTUALLY right now. I see you sitting there on your chair. Get your ass up and take that off!! It's horrendous! While you're at it take those running boards off too  That's two steps closer to it being a trail eating rig!
