Me again. One of the three people that post in this forum.

I’ve noticed a sucking/whistling noise on acceleration. It sounds like it’s from the left side of the engine

I can’t tell if it’s a boost leak, I don’t think it is. I think it’s intake noise if that makes sense.

I can’t make it do it in neutral. I’ve tried to pressurize the intake and listen for leaks but I don’t want to put too many psi on those plastic hoses. Besides the intercooler and throttle body there aren’t many places it could leak, all the couplings are tight and clamps secure, it’s not the little filter by the boost sensor. The throttle body is tight.

I’m starting to think it might be normal but thought I’d ask if anyone else has a similar issue. It starts at very low rpm, basically off idle with a load

It doesn’t whistle like a boost leak, more of a whoosh kinda noise.

There’s a tiny bit of rubber on the air box lid that doesn’t stay in place and seal, it could be that I suppose but the airbox isn’t real restrictive. I need a new one anyway, I’ve been keeping a lookout

From the air box, the intake does a 180deg turn near the headlight and goes back into the front left guard where it terminates with an odd filter/silencer looking plastic end on it. It's possible that has all come apart inside the guard making the sucking noise louder perhaps?

You’re talking about after where the airbox goes through the inner fender? Where there’s a sort of foam covered junction? I’ll dig up in there and look

God dammit you’re absolutely correct. I looked behind the fender with a flashlight and I can see it’s disconnected. Now I have to dig into it 😂

Well I think anyway. I need to look at the diagrams. Where the airbox goes through the fender there’s a box that has a tube running forward towards the headlight but there’s also a short tub that runs aft and is just open. It’s really hard on mine to pull the fender liner so I don’t have a great view of it

That fender liner pops out pretty easily and if you don't damage the plastic screw clips, you can reuse them all. It's worth while jumping on eBay and grabbing a bunch of new ones as back-up. Once you get into there, you'll notice the extremely restricted airflow in that dog leg bend is about a finger wide! And none of it is air/water tight. Really bad design!

I removed that section all together and custom built a snorkel that goes in straight line from the air box out through the guard, 90° bend up the edge of the car> pillar to the roof. Aftermarket snorkels utilise that tight bend making them basically worthless.

Mine doesn’t because the oversized fender flares go on top of it so you have to remove those first.

So the silencer on mine is as it appears in the manual. It goes from the airbox to the junction at the fender then there’s a box in the fender that has a forward and aft facing tube. Looking at the diagram mine seems normal. I’ll try and seal the airbox joint though. Maybe it’s sucking air there where the foam has degraded

I’m super not jazzed about drilling holes in the fender
