Hi Guys,

For those of you who have never done a valve shim adjustment or are a little intimidated about it I thought I would make a quick video that covers most of the procedure, of course you will need the manual while doing this.

Here is the video, and please subscribe as I have a bunch of other videos coming in the near future.

YouTube - Land cruiser 1HZ 1HDT 1PZ Valve shim adjustment tutorial

Regards,

Louis

very cool video and I checked out the other landcruiser ones you had, nicely done.
keep them coming

sweet. Thanks for showing the Louis.
In 100,000kms I will probably doing this.
Its nice to see.

Thanks guys, I have some other vids to come out soon, stay tuned!

And thanks for watching.

Louis

Oh, and thanks to John at Rad cruisers for the shims!

I have shims and the tool available for people if they want to use now, I offered it before but got caught up in snowmobile season:) So I can lend the tool and shims with some guidelines of course ie. i get it back! Shims to be replaced etc etc.

Louis: I'm in!
I'll pm you w/ address details. We've got two trucks here that are going to want adjustment(s).
Thanks!
Steve

well Louis, i should take you up on the offer
or
since i have a number of these PZ/HZ derivatives i should just buy the proper tool and take care of business...

Probably a good idea Wayne, the tool is already going out to 2 guys and possibly a third.

I just saw your video yesterday, nice!

I also just did that a few months ago but no need to get that probably very hard to find tool (where do you buy those Toyota tools anyway, looking for the one to adjust the ESP injection point etc.) . I just used a regular water tube clamp/plier or how you call them. They fit right in there and you can push the lifter down on the side, put a piece of hardened metal block (I got an old one from a lathe that is used to cut the metal, not sure how you call that in english) that fit perfectly there while you remove the shims.
I did the whole job very easy like that. Maybe not good if you do this everyday, since you maybe have 10-20% longer like that, but for every 100'000km no problem! :)

my 2 cents

there is more than one way to skin a cat ...
thanks for the post blade, got a pic of the tube clamp/plier you use?

true! :)

Not yet, I will make some this next few days, I totally forgot to make some pics when I did it! I just remember that most exhaust valves had 0.05mm (0.002") valve lash left, the previous owner didn't check that for a long time so I was lucky!

I also have to search the link of that Excel sheet I downloaded somewhere. It's an excel sheet where you can type in all the end plays you measue, the plates thickness and it calculates everything and tells you then which valve needs which type of plate. Makes things even easier like that and less chance of a misstake...
