Wild ride

I had a ride in Louis's rig last night, wow. what a difference! It pulls really well. I couldn't see the tach or the speedo, maybe that was a good thing, it really goes.

Louis, we'll have to head up to Luskville and duke it out on the drag strip dude! :)

Ya, I knew. Mario posts every once and a while on the Aussie forums. I put one and one together when I followed one of his links to your club in Panama and saw you there too. Must be great living in a place where you can buy the best 4Bs in the world new. I wonder if Plan Puebla Panama will affect that.

If Louis starts producing Turbo kits here, it won't be so bad for us Canucks who only had the non-turbo LCs new many years ago.

Thanks J-L, it does go pretty good eh! Pinks on the drag strip???? Will have to tweak mine a bit more though:)

Well have a few kits ordered now, fabing up various components next week, ordered some stuff from Japan, so hopefully the first kits will be ready to ship in the next couple of weeks. The Nissan turbos - not sure, I need a guinea pig first to attempt a fit.

JL, the more I think about it - the more I think we have to drag these trucks - would be hilarious!

I'm in!...well soon....

I'm in. pinks it is...
i could use a new bush pig and Louis...yours is looking pretty good right now...

Lol, hmm, I don't have propane injection, maybe that shold be next eh, water meth too maybe, maybe swpa out the engine for that Prat and Witney PT7??? Of course that would have to be mounted on the bed.

Oh, and you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands:)

just remember bigger isn't always better...

and to make it interesting, we will make it an off road race...say, powerlines at recess?

But on the topic of the intercooler, they get all the good stuff in Australia and at good prices. Could you imagine finding a water air intercooler core in NA for under $200? If so, tell me where!

Not soo much a core, but the XSPower air/water intercooler I have were going cheap on ebay in the US. That's the fully enclosed one with 3" inlet and outlets.

Saw Louis rig for the first time last night and its very nice. He even chirped the tires for us...:).

The sound of this truck made me want to get a turbo'd 1HZ for my 40.

HI Kevin, glad to have you at the meeting - decent turn out for an october evening during hockey season.

The intercooler install is just about finished - only have to pick up some couplings tomorrow to finish it off! I will post pics and the results when it is finished.

Oh, could you hear the turbo?? I can hear it in the truck - not sure if you can hear it outside very much?

Louis, turbo sounds great from the outside too. When you got it up in the rev, you could really hear it nice and clear. Sounded great :D

Now I just got to find the budget to put one in the 40.

Hi Guys, I just finished installing the intercooler, quite the chore as there isn't much room in there. I'll post pics tonight.

For the first test run I did not touch the fuel, The intercooler has a 2inch in pipe and 2.5 outlet. I can't really hear the turbo anymore, boost does build but the EGT's go up higher than before - is that because of the leaner mixture now? Turbo sounds different now - more whiny and intermittant.

Boost builds up but not quite as quick and I hear alot of air moving through the pipes - alot of air - sounds like - well like alot of air being forced through pipes. It almost sounds like it can't get enough air, but the engine still forces it through.

Then I turned up the fuel a quarter turn, more speed but EGT's go up just as quick - and boost drops instantly when I let off the throttle even a little bit.

Do I need to add more fuel to bring the EGT's down? Should I not be able to hear my turbo as much anymore? Should I hear so much air rushing through this thing now? Could the intercooler be too restrictive?

Exhaust is 2.5 inch - too restrictive?
Any advice?

I think you need ALS now, Anti lag system....

Joking, sorry can't help...:)

2.5" exhaust might be a bit small. From my sport car turbo days, first thing everybody with a turbo did was upgrade to 3" + exhaust (this is on 2L gasser's). Also all the NA domestic diesel guys are running monster exhaust of 4 to 5".

The only thing the intercooler is ment to do is cool down the air going into the engine, so buy not touching the fuel and adding an intercooler your EGT's should of been lower.

Because fo the presure drop, I'm wondering if the intercooler is the right size for the turbo/engine combo.

Not sure any of this helps.

After thinking about it for a while - I think there is an air leak - the loud air noise is probably that indication. If I had an air leak that would explain everything.

I will check it in the morning.

I'll also put on a 3 inch exh. when I get a chance in the spring for the heck of it.

lshobie, that is an awesome rig. What turbo did you end up using? G28? I read all of the posts, but I must have missed it.

Would love to see a video of it driving down the road like Tapage's video!

Thanks very much! I love my truck.

The turbo is based on a GT32 but I dont give all the particulars as I am selling kits for the 1HZ now.

I'll try to get a video up soon - the thing is - i just added the intercooler and can't hear my tubro anymore:( But lotsa power.

OK, had a big air leak - fixed it now - runs great!

Now I am removing the high altitude comp. from the inj. pump, I am finding that it messes with the fuel too much when the weather changes - the rpm one day will be 600 in the morning, and then a few days later it will be 700. So I have a new inj pump and have removed the top - and replaced the HAC.

Now I am making adjustments to see what I can do with it.
