Hey guys, It's been awhile but i found my way back here.:)
I am looking at putting a 1HZ into my Hj60. I have searched and found heaps of useful info thanks everybody!.
However there are question aplenty that i could not find covered.
Firstly, as silly as it may seem, Can i bolt the 1HZ up to my 4spd or does it have to be a 5spd?
If so what about the clutch/flywheel?
Things like engine mounts and gauges are no problem for me, it's just the knowledge from experience that i am chasing to ease some heart ache along the way.
The engine i hope to get is just a long motor, no manifolds, so i have a bit of work ahead of me. If the plan goes right it will end up a turbo 1HZ bobbed single cab ute.
It's currently a supercharged 2H. Twin locked. 4.88 diffs etc etc.....
I can't wait to experience the 1HZ in the light weight bobbed ute!..
Do you require a certain amount of posts before you can post images?? if not i'll get some up!
Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm. I thought someone might know something!

I wish I knew more about the 1HZ, but alas they are rare here in NA. Suggest you check out the diesel tech forum - those guys know a lot more about diesels. Hopefully one of them can help you!

You will need the 21 spline 5 speed and the clutch that goes with iT.
Unless the the long motor is really cheap I would consider getting a motor that is complete, maybe one with the gerabox
Buying a pump ,injectors/lines ,flywheel and all the other little things separately gives me a headache just thinking about it.
Basically it will cost a lot of money, possibly more than a good used complete motor.

I like your bull/winch bar even though its a little close to the radiator. Is it off a 75 series?
How about some pics and info about the supercharged 2H?

The engine i have was free. It has injectors, pump, waterpump, etc. need manifolds and electrics. There easily come by.

The bull bar i made. The winch looks closer to the radiator in the pic. There is actually 4 inches clearance between the winch housing and the radiator. And before anyone ask's, No i wont make another one. It was a prick of a job.....

Thanks for the info on the 5Spd. I thought as much but was hoping not!

I have been doing som reseach on the same project...

In orden to make the 1HZ fit in mine HJ60 w. H55F transmission, I needed a new input shaft, as the one I have has the wrong spline and wrong lenght.

You will need a new bellhousing, as the starte is on the opposite side of the engine, compared to the 2H.

Besides that there are some minor things...

But read this: http://people.clemson.edu/~gfujii/rides_pgs/cruiser/1hzswap/1hzswap.htm

Much information there :)

Basically it says.. Get the engine, the H55F and T-case.. It will save a LOT of work.

Good luck with the project... I hope to do the same soon :)

Cheers Dan

Thanks Guys, I am a little confused with the H55, H55f thing. What are the differences and which one do i need? Are there different splined and length input shafts on the same G/box codes???

Found this :
H55F = Cruiser 5spd in Canada
H42 = Cruiser 4spd in N/A
H41 = Cruiser 4spd with the H55F granny 1st gear (basically an H55F without the 5th gear hanging off the back).

afaik, the H55F HJ60 will not fit due to different spline count and lenght, but it should be possible to change inputshaft så that it fits.

I am not sure if the H42 or H41 case will fit.

Think I would write a mail to somebody who knows about t-cases...
ex http://www.marlincrawler.com :)

cheers Dan

Yes,this gearbox has 3 different spline count and length for the H55f.
There is one for the petrol and 2H diesel, another for the B diesel, and another for the 1HZ.
You can swap input shafts and bell housing but in oz its easier just to get the correct gearbox.
The t/cases are interchangeable as long as you have the complete t/case.
You cant mix pre/post late 85 t/case parts

Great pics ,what kind of blower is it ,TRD ??
How much differnce does it make and any problems with it?

I want to fit a Sprintex blower to my 1HZ. they make a kit for the 1HZ.
