Hi first time poster here! I'm Brendan from the Gold Coast Queensland Australia. I've owned a 1989 BJ73 with the series 2 3b engine and aftermarket turbo since 2001 and last year decided to put the mighty 1HD-FTE into it. It was I must say the easiest conversion ever. Its been going great couldn't be happier. Everyone I meet says to me it must be the only one in the world, which has got me thinking, is it? I figured the best place to ask around is on here. So does anyone know if its been done before?

Yeah that's a 1hdt though theres a few of them been done before

Ah, you're right; I missed where you said it was a 1HD-FTE. There aren't many of those engines here in NA. :(

Oh my God.

I just got all mushy inside.......:grinpimp:

All those blue plates on the firewall must have cost a fortune all by themselves.

What gearbox are you using?

Yessss! That would be awesome! Time to do some performance mods now ;)

Haha Billy start saving you haven't even turned over the 12ht yet. Cruiserdan I used the H150F gearbox that came behind it out of the wreck of a 2006 79 series ute.

Hi Brendan. I'm in the process of doing the same, with a 1HDT into a BJ73. I am concerned about the radiator capacity of the standard BJ cooling the bigger turboed motor. What did you do in yours? Could you get the HDT radiator into the BJ chassis? Thanks.

Nice work mate, starting to play around with some mods on my BJ73 but a new engine is not in the pipeline.....happy with the turbo’d 3B 🤙

1HD-FTE last of the good toyota six. That BJ would drive really well and literally pull a house down! Very neat looking conversion too.

They fetch between $8500 to $12000 AUD around here. Probably worth it in a good BJ but I could not justify in our 40 series so 12HT at only 30HP less (Non intercooled) was attractive under $4000.

Old post but I think there is at least one 75 series with a 1HD FTE, basically the same swap. Its a pity Toyota never spread the 1HD T-1HD FTE engine around a bit more in the 7* series.
