Hi team,
I’ve done a fair bit of searching on the forum, but it’s needle in a haystack stuff, so please forgive me if there’s a thread on this topic that I couldn’t find.
I have a 98 1hd-fte, auto. Took it camping last weekend towing a lightweight caravan without any issues (except a/t oil temp light coming on because I forgot to turn o/d off
). Parked it up Sunday afternoon and when I jumped in Monday morning I’m getting it cranking and cranking but not firing. Here’s the troubleshooting I’ve done so far:
Hand primed and tried starting. Nothing.
Check fuel lines for blockage. Nothing.
Crack injector line and confirm fuel, fuel pumping through when hand priming.
Sprayed ether into intake - this got it running for about 20 seconds and then died. Back to cranking but not firing.
Called mobile mechanic who did same troubleshooting and had same results.
Sent to diesel mechanic. They had diagnosed it as fuel pump failure and recommended the (very) expensive fuel pump rebuild.
But I’m not 100% sure about this diagnosis. Surely would have had some other kind of signal that the fuel pump was playing up? She ran perfectly all weekend, no loss of power, no clicking, nothing but beautiful FTE bliss.
I’ve spoken to a few people who have suggested the following:
Emergency shut off valve not ‘disengaging’.
Cam sensor buggered
One of the fuel pump sensors buggered.
I don’t have a diagnostic tool and before I send it for the very expense fuel pump rebuild/replacement I thought I would ask here. Any advice appreciated.
Vehicle located in Auckland, NZ.
Thank you.
