Getting a timing cover leak on my Land cruiser... garage saying it'll cost $9K AUD as engine needs removed due to how timing cover sits sandwiched rather than bolted in. any advice on how easy this is to do by self?

That seems a bit too expensive even for a engine pull and replace but who knows.

The folks over here in the US have the 2UZ-FE in our 100 series... I'm not sure how much info we have on the 1FZ . I thought those were on the 80 series but I'm not sure.


Damn then again this guy mentions 27 hours of labor to get it done lol s*** sounds like pulling the engine and heads may be necessary? How bad is the leak? Maybe run some AT-205 through the oil for a few hours and then swap your oil. Depends how invested you are in this vehicle.

Timing Chain Cover Removal 1FZFE

Can someone confirm if the cylinder head has to come off to remove the timing chain cover? FSM includes it as a step but certainly don't want to if I can avoid. Managed to mangle the timing chain cover trying to get the oil pump screws and oil pump cover off. Now leaks even worse than before...
