Do they make a scan gauge for OBD1? I don't have one. I feel like the bulb is burned out or been disabled by the PO, because it does run. It seems like if the AFM has been opened wrong, or the fusible links shot, then you won't get a check engine light with the key on, and no start. Mine will start, just exhibits the problems above.

With the key in the on position, not started, just rotated to the on position does the CEL illuminate? It is supposed to then goes out once starter is engaged.

When I turn the key to on (not accessory or start) I do not get a cel. But it does run, albeit rough so that leads me to believe CEL is out or disconnected. Is that a reasonable assumption?

No scangauge for OBD1.

Well, it can't run in the on position unless you go past the on position and start it. At that point it is too late to verify the bulb is out or tampered with. Before starting before trying to start, before rotating past the on position just rotate the key to on and leave it there. Is the cel light on? If not, then yes the bulb is out and or someone has buggered it up. You may well be answering above that you did this, it's just not clear to me.

I think we are saying the same thing. It is a three position switch. Accessory, on and start. There is no CEL in any of those positons.

Update. I know now the AFM is partially to blame. I went out to the shop after work, and tried to start it up. It started and idled good, still stalled upon acceleration. After a few minutes, it got to where it wouldnt idle. For grins, I unplugged the AFM, started it and it idled. As soon as I plugged it in, it died. So at least I know where to start. I'll update this when I find another AFM. (I know, there like unicorn teeth.)
