Does anyone make a quality header for the 1FZ? 50 state legal, ceramic coated stainless, thick flange and piping, and bolts up to the stock exh system would be awesome...

From what I've heard, I think it was Slee I talked to awhile back was that the stock exhaust manifold is pretty much designed as a header for optimum performance. I'm sure Slee will chime in here to correct me if I'm wrong. That's why there isn't any aftermarket product on the FZJ80 motor....

I've been told similar. I was told that it's pretty tough to beat OEM on that particular part.

I was told by a friend at TRD that they chose not to pursue a 1FZ header as the performance gains over the stock manifolds did not warrant the effort.

He coulda been jerking my chain but I bought the explanation anyway.....

I have one of the old Downey header sets, new in the box, if any body is interested.

The stock manifold looks like a decent design, for what it is ... The factory did replace it with a header in 98, which the US never saw as we never received the 1FZ in the 100. My best guess is that the engine is tuned so mild that there won't be much in the way of gains with out some camshaft changes, amongst other items. She's a clean burner... and it shows in the numbers.
