With regards to my title engine, I need to internally inspect the gear the drives my power steering pump. But for me to do this inspection, do I have to remove the front engine cover or is there another way of doing it? I was told that before I can remove the front engine cover, I will first have to remove the whole cylinder head and oil pan.

I certainly hope that there is another way for me to inspect that internal drive gear without removing my cylinder head and oil pan.

No other way I know of. Why do you need to check the gear drives?

1FZ-FE DOHC Engine

I need to check that particular gear because of a whining sound inside my subject engine. This sound had only occurred when the external gear of my power steering pump was not tighten well. It seems the gear may have move slightly and may have affected the internal drive gear.

We are certain though that the whining sound is not coming from the power steering pump as we had tried running the engine without the said pump attach. We had even remove all the engine drive belts just to make sure that the sound was not generated by the belts or a busted bearing.

the timeing cover (font engine cover) can be removed without removing the cylinder head
