What would cause this kind of spalling on a rod bearing? A few of them look like this, with some material missing around the oiling hole.
Thanks

If yer hole is spalled...you need a new hole. Make sure it gets lubed too. :) Sorry, that was too easy.

You Sir are too funny. ;) In all seriousness, would this be caused by lack of oil? To the bearing, not my hole.

lol...if you have it torn down this much. You're gonna change out the mains. If yer oil pressure (read lube) is low, then you need to address it with either a new pump or keepin' ur tubes in ur block clean or both.

I know we all want to understand the "why" and "how" of the situation of these motors. But...it is what it is. Do what you can with what you got and move on. If yer rebuilding, then the mains are mandatory...if you dropped the pan and a cap and saw that spalling, but had no issue...well then...prolly no issue. If yer oil pressure is at 5 psi...you need not worry about the bearings. Are you getting my drift? Cus that was too much typing and not enought drinking. Take care my friend.

Fix yer motor. Like I say when I go to the Doctor..."are ya giving me pills, cutting me, or doing both?" The choices are only those.

That doesn't look so bad...I've seen worse.

What does the #4 main look like?

This was a had the pan dropped and got nosy. Oil pressure was good. Figure I’ll put in new rod bearings since I have them all out anyway. Have not checked any of the mains yet. I’ll check the #4 tomorrow and post it.
Why the #4 as apposed to any of the others?

Thanks

Like I said...irregardless...you have 2 choices. Replace the part or put it back in and be happy....until you're not happy. At which point you will understand exactly the reason you are not happy.

The labouring decision making is kinda lame. And noone on this board is going to type things on you screen to make you feel better about what you have. It is what it is. Think "facts" and be reasonable.
