Hopefully google images doesnt **** me, I'll re-edit if it does.

Hello, new land cruiser owner here. Picked up this 100 of user Redrum. It has a history of rally support and what a coincidence, I'm a rally guy.

So while I have been messing with and flying with subarus half my life, I needed something different. Something comfortable. Something that can tow and support. Plus while I have been burning my life to the ground to build a shop and get people racing, I've come to really enjoy getting away from civilization, so this truck will be the perfect filler in my life.

Delivered to the shop:

Tested everything and drove it around the compound for a bit. Need some interior bits as a few 20 year old things are broken. Ordered an android head unit and need to fix/replace some of the speakers. The gas tank skid turned to dust when I touched it, new one is 200 or so from Toyota. Rocker rust isn't that bad and should be a Saturdays worth of work, just some small patches. Frame needs wire wheel and rust converter but is very solid. Sunroof is inop which sucks but it has rear windows that open with pressing button so I really don't care, pulling the cassette down does not seem worth my time.

Considering when I daily a subaru I keep a spare starter, alt, tools, and drive belt in the back, it only makes sense I start hoarding toyota stuff...

Next steps are figure out why the sup cig lighter and the center console plug are inop. Picking up a fridge soon. Need to figure out a platform and fridge mount where I can sleep two in the rig with the fridge. I'm 5'10 and the flip forward seats arent enough. Gas tank skid disintegrated so I need to get another one. Rocker repair will happen this fall and then reinstall the slee sliders. At some point I need to address the windshield rust bubbling. it isn't bad but it's on the list.

Various other things, slowly fix the interior and transition towards gray/black. But regardless, I'm enjoying the toyota turn the key and it just works while I can slowly deal with my subaru s***box fleet.

What's the story on the hidden winch mount?

Sweet rig, I'm interested to see how a seasoned Rally guy builds this. Side note: I feel like I've seen you post in MassTuning before? The Subaru shots look familiar... Maybe not though, I'm all over the internet. Good choice on plates btw, just got mine.

No idea as PO put it on. If I ever remove the bumper I plan to look at the plate and see who made it.

I've posted in apex a few times, but like you, I'm all over the internet usually reading and only occasionally posting. I prefer BBS instead of facebook as I grew up in that era plus I track all my builds and event recaps on a private forum for the team. Way easier to find info and organize there vs trudging through 200 facebook s***posts to find a part number.

Build will be slow and the truck is mostly "done" suspension wise, the OME springs and koni raids are phenomenal. Just need to make some setups for camping and call it a day along with keep up with maintenance.

Back to work:

stereo adapter came in, hope its the right one, also in my reading I may have to bypass the amp. I hate wiring so this will be great fun.

Is that Niall's old 100? I met him years ago to take a set of 3rd row seats off his hands, probably from this very truck. Glad to see it go to a good new home!

Now that you say that, those fog lights looked familiar (for some reason that's what caught my eye). It definitely looks likes his.. didn't realize he had sold it. Good guy, chatted with him a handful of times now, and actually still need to grab a coffee with him to discuss my own 100.

Yup, truck is straight from Niall. What a great guy. Seriously a class act and I do not give praise lightly. He was running sweep (extracting broken/crashed rally cars) at the New England Forest Rally in his 80 series. A friend who I've known for years was running sweep in his GX and knew I was looking for a GX or 4runner 120. A few conversations and hand shakes and the wheels were put in motion. Was great to meet him at the rally but glad I didn't see him the rest of the event. You don't want to see sweep during the rally, means you broke or you ****ed up.

Back to present...

Tried to do the radio install and amp bypass today, but the plug on the aftermarket adapter didn't match the OEM stereo wiring. What a bummer.

Following this guide for amp bypass:

Stereo Wiring: Land Cruiser / LX 470 (1998-02)

but it is unclear about the wiring for the speaker, shared ground vs individual ground. I am wire stupid and once I figure this out I want to do a better write up about it because I haven't found a post that makes it brainless yet. I think I'm missing a metra harness and a better idea of what goes where. Good news was the seat came out no problem and I found my bluetooth FM modulator so I can get by with phone tunes.

Used the truck to move a couch for some old friends:

2003 subaru legacy wagon.

It did a ton of rally recce and service crew support, but was put out to pasture due to too much rust, a non emissions legal motor swap I did as a zero hour move, and various other little issues:

Bf3nAyimrzyDQlOmFAuL3axEe9aKerceK5h12Ht-j9nOzyBddEahbfnEiY_ClvjSFqgrFlZeV14gCJOzoTzYaTcFcH5UMR6vr0kBRZXUgUoU7JNGp_vG0FHSHkv9sNkbFqyvCKcKlHap2A6gIO9mAb0rqDFwuGlHdItJkXbRLgO1COKVxzJB0Gd5s6Im-tk7mj0RYoEkROZkgv-dshNDT1r9L98cNHiV3mWfbOer3gCKo_-u-VCHM6bh2xAa4ZfKaYDErm8jTn5G0LhAGyhJP06SkG5An3xW10yKOWAHB2l8ng6IpesQU43JM-eufIL_WXC5qbpo0T1RM7GejgxR_QbTB3BsGMpMh1s-yXUfo3Vc_vjaSN6afrp2Ik-BsnSl4pKRoBBhXoFv30QG5x__FfYNRNhEXe8gU37u9VAOgA5C-nLNmdOH6jDQA4yG1t0QpJXkFOf80NWzkVEcOsvtw-eLtY9pcF3Gx-jYvGfnBtQ44snsL7JKl-2NIDqTdL_zQPV71C7q2yNSU-RGFiJPqHcujzGNN6Yk8PmSgzc2TABG2FRBqQOrPUNmQYocBDQfToTTUER56Qq6muFvM44zgtTLuOKiehPbya6A2fmYN-rKupWg9hLZ4S4ZY3Ch2sg=w800-h450-no

But that thing got packed to the gills and saw had a lot of notches in the rally belt.

Few more things with the land cruiser. Fob buttons don't do anything and I only have one key. Need to rectify that, would prefer to figure it out over techstream vs doing a konami code key program dance, I don't know how many keys are programmed as is. Still new to this so forgive me if I am misspeaking. Other fun things are the front driver door has a bit of sag, need to figure out which hinge needs fixing. Lock button locks all doors except the driver, so I lock button and then manually flip driver door lock. Me thinks the wiring harness is chaffed in the door, but this is coming from my Jeep Cherokee PTSD. Also poking at the truck more, its clean but it has the crusties. Worked on my daily driver WRX today, once I get it cleaned up and stickered, I'll throw the land cruiser on stands and horrify you all with some good old fashioned New England Rocker Rust repair. I also plan to be an over achiever and replace the brake and fuel lines that have any corrosion because while Toyota did a good job for the first 20 years, I don't want to touch it after I go through my baseline.

Also if you haven't figured out yet, I'm slipping in other cars and stories in here. Going to be a bit of a meandering thread. Today at the shop a question as simple as "do you have any clear tape" turned into a 10 minute rally story.

6 pack of beer on me if you put a brainless solution/write-up together for wiring and bypassing.

You dont need to carry extra starter or an alternator as long as you have oem denso starter with new contat set and oem denso alternator with an oem brush kit. Toyotas dont breakapart like a subaru or any other car.
Make sute you get the heater Ts done and never ever get aftermarket alternators or starters. Just do the contat set and brush kit and you are good for another easy 100K miles.
