Hey LC guru's

I own a 2014 mazda miata club and needed something bigger so i don't show up on a forest service road with my miata lol.
I'm in western North Carolina. I've been really inspired by the fire truck builds on here and trying to grasp as much as possible from the beautiful threads. I'm someone with little to no experience but i hope i get to learn a lot from this build.

Here's a list of things i'm planning on doing to it.
1. GTurbo G333 Titan kit (hdautomotive)
2. PDI front mounted intercooler (hdautomotive)
3. HD Auto Airbox (hdautomotive)
4. Manta 3 inch exhaust (hdautomotive)
5. full parabolic lift kit from terrain tamer
6. uteltd tray, or build my own TBD but may just get the uteltd one.
7. nomad covoy wheels 15 X 7
8. Toyo opat 31X10.5R15LT
9. PDI brake booster with braided lines

In addition to above i think i will need to do some fire truck specific things like
1. replace with factory radiator
2. front axle asin free wheel
3. fuel tank
4. remove pto pump etc.

BIG beautiful project
thank you @JDMBC

I think a 12mm pump may be overkill for a 1HZ given the risk of cracking the head with over-fueling. But I'll let others with more experience chime in on that.

10. HD clutch upgrade (exedy)
11. 12mm fuel injector pump.
Nice looking fire truck, should be great to for all the forest roads out west. Where are you sourcing the 12mm injection pump?

Truck arrived today from Jacksonville port to Western NC. Progressive won’t let me add this since it’s a “fire truck”. State Farm has a good policy with these kinds of things, so I’m switching my other cars over.
Hopefully that’s smooth. Then it’s registration and starting work on the pump pto. Needs some sound deadening and hood lifts asap.

it feels very hard to shift to 3rd gear from second but not when downshifting from 4th. Drove it in circles around the property for a while and towards the end I figured out maybe it’s more towards the 5th instead of being close to 1st or it was abused by the 2nd owner. Hopefully it’s just a little getting used to this pattern and a longer shift rod maybe ?

It’s missing the seat headrests so I’m looking for some nice BMW or Lexus seats that I can mount in without much trouble.

Looks like a fun project, congratulations!
Will be following the build for sure.

I'm curious what everyone is doing with the "fire truck" piece behind the cab where a new bed or tray back goes?
Seems wasteful to scrap it, but I don't know who would be able to use it or who would be a buyer.

Hello,

You can start by changing gearbox and transfer case oil.

If the problem persists, a repair is necessary.

Yes, that's on the list. Just ordered some MT-90 Redline and their 75W90 GL-5 differential fluid .
From export certificate it appears that this was purchased and maybe used as a pump for the most part... since they only put about 2,500 KM on it since 2021.It has new batteries from 2024

Another guy in here said the mechanic took it in exchange for removing it. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, probably scrap it. Chatting with a few local folks I’m hoping somebody can let me use their shop and pay them for a dozen hours and let them take it and do as they please with it.

I have some friends who are wild land firefighters but they didn’t want it, they want the whole truck lol.

It will be a fun ride. When you are finished you will love it…not much use for the box on the back. Really just a shell and all the piping hidden. I gave mine to a friend who did most of the work. Not sure what his plans are for it….I do know it was lots of weight… I think it was around 2300 lbs. can’t remember for sure but its in my thread…I drive mine everyday.

@cppilot I read most of your thread multiple times. Definitely getting the Rosen sun visors.
Yeah, idk who wants it either.

First mod done, added some alibaba gas struts. It didn’t come with any padding so added some tire repair patches so it doesn’t dig into the hood. It appears that they clear without rubbing on anything. I made a rookie mistake of over tightening one of the 12mm bolt, gotta figure out how to dig it out.

bonnet had some play and was vibrating like crazy, so increased height on the bump stops. It appears that the passenger side is not aligned perfectly, l will get new ones but for now the vibration isn’t visible.

Temporarily added some Dynamat plus 1inch Dynacore glued together to take the pups for a ride around the property, didn’t want them having a traumatic experience lol. Noise from back is almost gone, I can just hear engine noise now.

Lots of parts fluids arriving in next couple of weeks.

That’s exciting I’m sure. What’s your plan for the back ? Bed or Trey deck ?

I’m pretty sure it’s a uteltd tray. SET one would be great but I think they are too expensive. I plan to throw a OVRLND flatbed pop-up on there once I figure out the flatbed part.

I’ve thought about custom camper that’s a cross between ellieoverland x overlanderunderbudget but I’m too much of a noob for that and none of CAD friends live near me to help. Truck is already big project for me and way over my head but all the build threads here makes it feel slightly more doable and interesting.

Awesome truck!

Loads to learn and I hope you have fun along the way. This forum is great for information, helpful folks and great vendors. If you don't already know the in forum search function is mediocre, I find 100x the info when I search through a web search, IE google: ih8mud.com *search topic*

Cruise On
