Hi everyone,
Saw this 99 100 series for $6500. Opinions on rust level. Should I stay away from it?

I had an 80 series once that looked like that. I wouldn’t do it again. Everything you touch is seized, breaks on disassembly etc. It’s probably a part out candidate more than a build/upgrade candidate IMO.

Just got some more pictures, what do you all think

Looks as bad as the first batch, not surprisingly. If you're set on a nice 100 series double your budget. If your budget is $6500 come down to Phoenix and find a nice rustfree 3rd generation 4Runner.

Man I live in Wisconsin and my 98 with 335k is basically rust free underneath. Little bit of prevention goes a long way. Madison not using salt on almost any of the roads helps too.

This cruiser spent its life in Vermont and only one year in Arizona. It was treated regularly by toyota but it still has rust. Most of it is surface rust but there is some severe pitting in routine places. I am hoping to bring it back to some semblance of its original glory. But for what I gave for it I could just drive it and fix as I go. The rust really scared a lot of people who were probably wanting something to build onto easily. Lucky for me though. Being a poor fellow I can deal with rust to drive such a stellar vehicle.

Yea if you can find one with surface rust and no rot some good ole fashioned elbow grease can make a big difference. Good luck with it!

This Series 100 is so nice. It looks show room on top with all of the service records, window stickers and sale brochures from when it was purchased.
