What's it worth? I really like it but with the miles, I'm thinking $12,000 tops and that's pushing it. Funny how less equipment = more money but I get it. I normally don't like 80's without flares but this one looks good.
Worth is determined by perception, and perception is prone to distortion.
The seller has an anchor price of 17k. Some might call that dis(ex?)tortion.
He has redone a fair bit of the drivetrain and apparently filled the old fender flare holes and repainted it. It looks better than most 40th's I see these days, not sure its 17k good though. If it was armored and winched, I'd strongly consider it
I don't think it had flares. I think his major selling point is, aside from being in really good shape and well maintained, it's a true poverty pack. Manual seats and such, steelies, no flares or sunroof. I like it. Just not in my price range.
It doesn't have the third row seat anchors, so it you wanted to add the third row it would be a significant task. Also a negative if you wanted to use the anchors for other purposes like drawers, tie downs, sleeping platform, etc.
I like the idea of a base model with cloth and no sunroof, but some things like window tint and third row seating are useful IMO.
This trim is somewhat in the middle of the pack, IMO. The real "poverty pack" would be the non-turbo 1HZ diesel engine, manual trans and front locking hubs with rear barn doors and vinyl inside, AKA the "UN" trim.
Still love it nonetheless. Wish we could see some of these more often stateside.
Talked to him this morning, sounds like he has a lot of traffic on it. Very clean and a looker for sure, wish it had 50-75K less miles for the money though. It'd take another $5-7K to get it modded to where I'd be happy and that'd make for a $25K 80 series with 200K+ miles.
Well I couldn't resist, I made an agreement with the owner and I'll be picking her up in Tulsa next week. I'm pumped, I was 15 when this rig hit the streets and I remember drooling over them then. It's going to make a great ranch and dog transport vehicle.
Now, any opinions on sliders, rear bumper/carrier, and roof rack?
