I was extremely interested and felt SURE I was going to buy this vehicle. I e-mailed the guy asking for photos of the engine and undercarriage. This vehicle has spent its entire life in coastal Florida, so rust was a concern. I advised him that if he could provide the photos, an offer would be forthcoming shortly thereafter. The guy would not provide photos and insisted I make an offer before he took the photos. He said he didn't want to "waste his time".

Such an attitude caused me to look further at his background. His eBay feedback is listed as 73 transactions in the past year with 100% positive feedback. But if you look closer, only about 6 of those are as a seller, and if you go back past a year, his feedback is absolutely TERRIBLE.

So then I looked him up on the Better Business Bureau and he has an "F" rating.

Would YOU trust a car salesman from New Jersey named "Lenny", with an F rating through the Better Business Bureau? One who won't provide photos without an offer? Not me.

It may be a rare gem of a vehicle, but it sounds risky - and I'll refuse to even consider it just because of the guy's attitude.

Good info to know. I had seen that vehicle on Autotrader prior to seeing this post. You never know what youre getting yourself into unfortunately. Not that I was going to buy it because its too far, not to mention out of my budget..(3K budget :)

I am trying to buy a nice 97, less than 150k mi, I will pay a nice "premium", I am watching everything, but it seems like something is always a snaggle, people avoid pictures of the front seat or the knuckles, they can't be bothered to take more pictures, mods are priced at retail etc. I asked a local craigslist seller, to meet at my Toyota mech for the $49 review not interested. The other of course is the unwillingness to provide the VIN for a carfax until they have an offer. Would anybody buy a vehicle without running the carfax? Or, I will pay the ebay sales costs to get the sales protection, still not interested...

I don't get it...

I love the must sell ASAP, Price is firm. The only thing missing is motivated seller.

I've had very similar experience the last 2.5 months... so I've got kind of pi$$ed off and have backed off for a while...

Agreed when your selling a vehicle for a premium price saying it is perfect or has a bunch of desirable mods or something it should come with a car fax and the seller should have no problem meeting at a mechanic for a serious buyer, for a typical auto that is not a cream puff or a premium priced vehicle.. Makes no sense, Im just happy i bought something and font have to go through the search anynore! Lol

ps That cruiser seems way overpriced any way

That dealer is known to sell overpriced Land Rovers as well.

And don't you think for that price it should include more than one center cap? I mean seriously, the mark up on that truck is ridiculous.

I contacted the same seller few months back, when he had a LX450 for sale with 90k miles asking for $10G. Talked to him on the phone few times asking for more pic; especially the axles and the frame, he would always tell you a different story about no time to take more pic.

I bought my 1997 LX450 back in August from a Lexus dealer in Springfield, MI. I caught wing the truck before they had any photos on their website. It listed 48k miles, one owner for $18,999.00.

I asked the internet manager, Steve Roberts, to send me some detailed photos. He sent photos from every angle and nook and cranny. After receiving the photos I made am offer within a few hours and bought the truck. This was the real deal owned by a wealthy gentleman from the midwest. Awesome maintenance history and a beautiful carfax.

My Dad drove it out to me in Santa Barbara, CA. Love this rig!

Anyway, my point is if they won't take more photos then they are hiding something, most likely. The only way I'd by that LX is if I saw it in person first.

My 2 cents--

1997 Lexus LX450, black, second owner, currently 54k miles.

We should car pool as we cruise around the Denver area dealing with unsavoury characters. Did you look at the supercharged 96 in Aurora? Where looking at the carfax was discouraged...
