So I've been lurking on the forum for months learning about 80's and finally bit the bullet on this one...

Toyota: Land Cruiser

It was listed as $19,000 and I made an offer for $15K and it was accepted which I didn't really expect and now I'm suffering a little buyers remorse!

So what do you guys think, was this a reasonable price?

Be gentle :)

I think the main point here is you asked what everyone thought about the deal and several of us gave our opinion. The final decision is/was up to you. Hopefully it turns out to be everything you expected and there are no surprises.

I think you got scammed.

It's possible of course. Not the end of the world though, just a headache to try and set things right.

Hopefully he wasn't scammed. Even if he was, doesn't eBay have protections built in for scams like that?

You're right, it's technically a legally binding contract when you buy through eBay. I made an offer, he accepted and I paid him the deposit through eBay and then the final amount. He owes me that vehicle with that VIN by law.
There's several avenues to get at him if he is a thief. I've got his bank account, home address, business address, cell phone number, home phone number, email, his wife's information, his business info and a huge paper trail documenting everything. Hell, I even looked at his address on google maps streetview and it's the same house in the background of the pictures of the truck.

It's not like a Craigslist meeting in some parking lot, if he did try to scam me he's a MASSIVE idiot.

Interesting...the ad says auction is closed and sales price was $19K:hmm: I hope he honored your $15K offer.

Yeah, eBay does a weird thing where it shows the "buy it now" price as the final amount regardless of what actual amount the seller accepted. I sort of think they do that to inflate their numbers and make it look like sellers are more successful than they really are.

Seams legit. And definitely a nice truck. Congrats. I'm sure when it shows up the little bit of buyers remorse will be gone and you'll love it.

...X2...

Title just arrived in the mail and the transporter has her loaded up and en route!
Freaking excited!
Is it weird that I think the first thing I want to mod is putting in a drawer system? I guess it's my OCD but I can't wait to organize all of my trail gear in there :)

I think you got scammed.

Hint hint. The new account. His account was probably high jacked. The person took all his info and then created a new account.

Not when he has to spring for a birf job & head gasket replacement.

Are you always this negative, dude? Therapy is more expensive than a birf job but probably more meaningful in the long run :)

Congrats! Hope there are no surprises when it gets to you.

I appreciate the info about the level of corrosion. I'll definitely look into it and fix what needs fixing.
You are a gentleman and a scholar.

If anyone is curious what happened things actually went smoothly (except for the shipping broker being slow to schedule) and it arrived on time and as described. Barry (local mechanic and forum member) has been through it and thinks it's in great shape overall, and fair price for the condition it's in. Parts ordered to get her perfect before we start the real modding, and I'll make build thread eventually. So freaking excited to start having fun with the thing! Thanks for the input everyone and having at least a few of you help chill me out after the sudden purchase :)

At least you got it, and you appear happy. Congrats! be sure and post your build:cheers:

Yeah, it's exactly what I want and what I was willing to pay, but was planning on doing it in the spring. Learned my lesson that sometimes what I think is a lowbal offer gets accepted!
