well got some done today

I replaced a piece of alluminum I broke that attaches to the head for the upper rad hose ......, also get my alternator put back in
decided while I had everything all torn apart I replaced the distributor cap, the spark rod, wires and plugs

I need to top up with coolant reinstall my battery and than take her for a test rip

I also bought another toyota today!!!! I found a mint a 2007 Tundra! The thing looks like its brand new inside and out, its crazy the condition this thing is in, Ill take some pictures when I pick it up tomorrow, I spent a little more than I wanted for an 07 but the truck is like I said like brand new.....

Bought an LQ4 today!

Now I'm thinking I'll stick to tge factory transmission but I don't see anyone who has done a GM swap with the factory tranny, I really don't feel like regearing again.......

I'm thinking of running an atomic efi system but not sure how that would work out with factory trans so looking for a bit of input on that end

Trans is simple input output I'm sure most of the efi systems with GM capability can handle it. You can always leave the factory computer to control the Trans. All you need is tps sensor input from the Trans.

KISS I would not try and mate a Chev V8 to a stock Toyota trans. The 4L80e has far more support, bolts to the engine (huge cost savings) and works off the factory or after market ecu options.

I too, think you would be well served to run a GM automatic transmission.... does not seem to be any value to do otherwise.

i dont know the cost re gearing to me is a bigger cost than the purchase of a transmission even with the bellhousing adapter kit from Marks

Im comtemplating the swap, but I do not think 5.29's and GM gearing would be fun .....

I don't know what transmissions you are comparing against a 5.29 R&P ratio. But I would think you would want to look at the final drive ratio of both. Also would depend on the tire size you run. Are you saying the toyota transmission had a far better final drive ratio vs the gm transmission?

No dispute that the 5.29 R&P is low geared...but I'm not tracking why the GM overdrive automatic would not be a good choice vs the toyota? Is there an adapter to adapt a toyota auto transmission to a GM engine? I know there is on the manual toyta transmissions.

FZJ80 A343F 1-95 to 1-98
1st 2.804:1 x 5.29 = 14.83
2nd 1.531:1 = 7.96
3rd 1.000:1 = 5.29
OD .753:1 = 3.98
R 2.393:1
4L80e
1st 2.48 = 13.12
2nd 1.48 = 7.83
3rd 1.00 = 5.29
4th 0.75 = 3.97
4L65e
1st 3.059 = 16.35
2nd 1.625 = 8.596
3rd 1.00 = 5.29
4th 0.696 = 3.68

Now without check RPM's I may be to switch to built 4L65e for my case, not sure exactly what I want to do here, Marks 4WD does make a kit for the 1fzfe 4spd to LS swap kit. Its roughly the same cost as a t-case adapter kit. Let it be known im not overly concerned about highway speeds for the most part, I was perfectly happy with just keeping the 1FZfe but im looking like ill need a few thousand in work and to be honest at this point LS swap is making sense due to the price I received

I guess going with a GM transmission, I can also just run the MSD trans controller as well, as I do believe I am going to do a Atomic EFI set-up

now im leaning towards a 4L65e with an MSD trans controller to go with the msd atomic efi for the engine management!!!

Im just a little concerned the 4l65e might be a little on the weak side, but the gearing to me looks better suited for my application

I think no mater what transmission you get you are going to be re gearing back to stock. Thoes Ls motors like to cruise at low Rpm to return any decent economy.

its funny you mention that!!! While I agree that it wont be economical, THIS is FAR from a daily and it will have about 4 maybe 5 major trips per year...... I guess the biggest thing Ill need to know if a GM engine can handle some higher revs for a sustained trip. I know my current set-up handles them decent, but fuel economy is far from my concern with this set-up

some more neat math based on numbers I have as I use this a wheeler and its a nice to know thing

My 2500 Chevy has 4.10 gears and runs 2500+RPM on the hwy.

That 4L65E is essentially an electronic 700 that came in the 1/2 tons and Escalades. I believe the Toyota trans is stronger than the 4L65E in stock form. You could dump a bunch of money into upgrading it, but if it were me, I would be putting a 4L80E behind that LQ4. The 4L80E came stock in the 3/4 ton GM trucks with the LQ4 and LQ9 motors.

well I managed to swap the injectors, the fpr and filter
decided also to put some NGK wires on it, and she runs again much much better and quieter hahaha

So ill probably be running the 1fzfe for a while longer, just need to reinstall the hood, clean up a couple small items, look for I think sounds like a vacuum leak even though the truck runs and idles great. I also checked my harness near the EGR and found it to be in great condition so I closed it back up nd put some high temp tape over top to keep the heat down

Also while I had the hood off, I had a small leak on my valve cover, so I took the liberty to take it apart, clean and replace it. I also at this point replaced the PCV valve which looked to be from 1997 :p

well fixed the fuel leak, ran it, thought it ran out of fuel, not the case.... hahahaha
Got the tires aired up, think I killed my air compressor in the process, went for a drive.... same issue hesitating, misfire on cyl 5.... at this point I was ready to throw in the towel and pay a pro.....

Decided to look once more through the forums and found the thread about "one more place to check" sure as hell, wire rubbing on the metal brace below the PCM...... a quick run into lowes grab some foam/edge killer and tape it on, repaired the rubbed raw wire and BOOM it runs like a champ

Best its run ever for me

well a bit of a update
since the fuel injector swap and new filters etc.... the rig is running extremely strong!

I finally got around to putting a winch on it, went with 12k Smittybilt X2O and seems to be decent, Ill update later in the year, I got a couple more trips planned to end the year

I also took her on the trail today did some ice breaking and mudding

great any words of advice in getting the tcase out??? I have a really bad leak.... so its coming out and I ordered some tcse reduction gears

It's easy, just 6ish bolts holding it to the transmission and a few wires.
