I was curious, do you happen to know what vehicle did your 4L60E come out of? Sounds like certain 4L60E trans has protruding parts that can come close to or even crowd the front DS.

I used the bigger brother 4l65e. You can use a shallow pan or cut and clearance the pan

ok, did that 4L65E force the whole drivetrain to move over to the driver side more?

No it did not. Crank bolt was centered in the frame and transmission mount bolted down motor clearance to hood motor mounts burned in and done :)

there's no physical external difference between a 4L60e and 4L65e. They look the same on the outside. The only way to know is by the VIN from the donor truck.

FWIW I used a 4L60e from a 2003 2wd avalanche truck. As long as you go 2001 and newer you will have the correct PWM transmission. Must also be a 2wd trans to work with the Marks Adapter.

The 4L60e is quite a bit more compact than the Aisin that comes out. Also the trans pan can be a clearance issue if there is no lift on the truck. going to a spicer 2 inch front shaft fixes this problem.

finally the truck oil pan is too big for the 80 swap. go with the f body pan.

Bigger brother meaning internals sorry if that confused anyone

Well I have about 20k on this swap so far. I have not had a single issue so far. Overall I am very happy with the outcome and wouldnt have it any other way. The most recent upgrade I have done include building an aluminum fan shroud and a 96 Volvo electric fan and relay system. Ill post some photos of it.

Any vids of the beast in action? I wish I was closer.....

I will soon.. I need to go wheeling, been too long

Dude, did you redo your shroud? pics man, pics!!!

It's lighter and more hp I don't see the problem :meh:

I agree, who cares? This part of the world is free, want to put an American motor in your Toyota, go for it...

why would ANYONE defend the 1FZ?

Because historically Toy inline 6's are bullet proof, gutless but reliable, which is what most of the world wants in a vehicle that has to stay together while you travel through desolate, isolated, or war torn locations as apposed to driving at 90 MPH down an asphalt highway commuting to and from work or to your kid's soccer game. Unfortunately North Americans in general didn't have an appetite for diesel engines, especially in a "luxury SUV" like the 80 Series, we got stuck with the gutless gas powered 1FZ instead of a gutless but relatively fuel efficient turbo diesel option.

The motor it SHOULD have came with

Thankfully it didn't!... remember that in the 90's while America was building good V8 motors (well at least some good V8 motors) Japan was building great vehicles. I suspect that's why most of us here on 'Mud drive them, because with a Toy you're most likely going to get home again. At least the glove box door hasn't dropped off, the headliner hasn't sagged from the ceiling like a wet drape and the doors haven't fallen off their hinges.

The gutless but reliable 1FZ came in a superior carton to the American V8s of the day. :meh:

If the 1fz was so great why didn't they use it in the 100 series? No doubt statistically the 1fz is a decent motor besides the head gasket issues and lack of power. Your long ramble boils down to personal preference...

I'll ramble some more... actually they did use the 1FZ in the 100 series.

Yeah and not one was sold in the united states.. Imagine how horribly under powered that would be lol

Not everyone lives in the United States... in other parts of the world speed may be considered secondary to other factors. I'm not declaring my personal preference, which would actually be a turbo diesel instead of the 1FZ, but earlier you seemed to be struggling with the concept of why "ANYONE" would defend the 1FZ.

If you read my sig, you'll notice I'm not opposed to a V8 swap... albeit a Toyota V8. But again, to each their own.

I look forward to seeing the video of your V8 LX wheeling.

Not struggling with any concepts?? What I am struggling with is how your posts are contributing to my thread

Nope not mine that was another mud member
