I have a 1996 FZJ80 and would like to upgrade my factory sound system. I have been told that my 80 has an amp. What I need to know is that true? Where can I pick up the preamp output from the factory deck? I would like to keep factory head unit to create a sleeper system. No Bling in the dash. I know the factory deck is not the best for what I want to do, but my plans are to move up to XM thru an Fm mod. So all am looking for is a flat preamp output signal. I will make all sound adjustments via crossovers and amp gain settings.

yours is a Toyota not a lexus right?

Donno the answer to your question, but if the system is anything like the LX, you might want to scarf a copy of the factory wiring diagram with the color codes. It's got more wires than anything I've ever F'd with.

Phil, the loom going from the head unit to the amp located to the right of the glovebox should be low power. It would be a good spot to tap in a line to RCA converter.
