Some details below on the project.
1995 Toyota FZJ80 Series Land Cruiser with 191K on it. I did not run a carfax on it but as far as I can tell its accident free. Doesnt look like any fender repairs or anything like that. Lady owned it before me and she never serviced the cooling system and it overheated warping the head. She took it to local garage and they took off head and then lady didnt want to pay for it so I got wind of it and bought it.
I surfaced the head and rebuilt it totally. new valves, springs, keepers, valve job, valve stem seals etc. its all new and perfectly flat. I took .010" off of the head.
Cams were cleaned and all cam surface areas on head were polished. So head is in great shape.
Engine was pulled along with tranny and transfer case all in one piece. Seperated tranny and transfer case from motor. All in good shape. Tranny fluid clean and no burnt smell at all. Engine looked to be leak free. Not alot of soot or oil grime and dirt on it at all. Block was bored .020" over and decked .010" to ensure perfect flatness and smoothness. My plan was to run a Cometic MLS head gaskets as I did not want to use the composite style OEM gasket which degrades over time. All oil galleys were cleaned out and block was cleaned in a solvent tank. Not a hot tank but a solvent tank wash.
This is the current state of engine. I have the following all new parts to go into it. New pistons with coated skirts and anodized domes along with rings sets and pins and keepers. All new main and rod bearings. All rods and end caps have been cleaned. I have new rear main seal and all new misc gaskets and orings to put motor back together. The crank has been cleaned and polished and looks great.
This LC is clean underneath. I have owned several 80's over the years and this is by far the cleanest one I have ever had. Dont get me wrong, the rear axle housing has a little rust on it and there is some flaking here and there but nothing like most of the LC's from our area. When we pulled the motor and trans we had to disconnect the sway bar and the bolts came right out and the rubber wasnt all cracked up and everything just to give you an idea. I have prepped the engine bay for engine installation. Frame spars have been rust proofed and paint with VHT hi temp black paint. I also painted the axle housing as well.
The interior of the LC has been totally sound proofed with BoomMat and the spray in sound proofing material. I washed all the carpets and cleaned everything and reinstalled the carpets. All door skins have been taken apart and the doors have all been sound proofed with the boom mat and spray in deadener too. I tested all window motors and they all work fine except for the drivers motor. That has a stripped plastic gear inside and will need to be replaced. Interior is all in good shape. This LC has the cloth seats that are manual adjust and in my opinion are way more comfortable then the old hard leather seats.
Things that will need attention are the LC needs a radiator. The passenger side front door handle is broken due to somebody trying to break into the LC before I bought it. A new handle assembly will be needed. The power antenna does not go down. The rear wiper was removed to fix a little spot of rust around it and now cannot be found so I was just going to weld in a patch panel and eliminate it all together as they are fairly useless anyways. Rims on the LC are in great shape. Tires have some dry rot but could be used for a little bit. LC has bilstein shocks on it as well. Headliner, sunroof, door skins, switches and controls are all in good shape. You can tell a woman owned this because its not all beat up inside or out.
So to summarize motor needs put back together. Motor, tranny and transfer case need installed and hooked up and the seats and console etc would need to be bolted back in. I have all bolts, parts etc bagged and tagged so reassembly should be pretty straightforward. I have an upgraded PHH hose for it along with some other upgraded little parts to make this LC last a long, long time.
I can text lots of pics if you are still interested. I tried to touch on everything so you could get a good idea of the size of the project. Let me know if questions. Looking for $5000 as it sits. My plan is to keep assembling the motor and moving forward with getting it back on the road. If time becomes an issue for me then I may just part it out. Let me know if any questions. Thanks guys.
