What the scoop on the kzj78 JDM? Is it ok? Engine trouble, like the 2.4litre LJ78?

do some research ont he Oz forums... the heads still are cracking and elec problems from what i have read so far...

personally, i am not touching ANY toyota diesel smaller than a 3.4L and i will be encouraging anyone that asks about these to demand a full one year warranty on the heads...

They are not perfect but far more reliable than the 2.4. If the 1KZ T does blow a head gasket or crack the head ,you have a far better chance of having it fixed satisfactorily.

which tells me there IS a problem so why bother?

but if someone wants to unload a time bomb on their customers that is up to THEIR conscience...mine doesn't allow me to screw a customer intentionally...

Well to be honest my only knowledge of them is from 96 on. Toyota Australia imported hardly any 2LT powered vehicles and the 1KZ T didnt reach us until 96.
So we had no Prados from 92-96
Maybe they saw the writing on the wall and were not prepared to let aussies near something that wasnt right.
After all, they normally let us have all the best things like V8 turbo diesels and troopies in copious quantities 1st:D:D:D

However the 96 on diesel Prado is a very hard vehicle to find on the used market because the owners wont sell;)
That must tell you something.

Maybe you should get one for yourself and use it as a DD and see how it goes. Maybe with a pre check of the head built into the price they would be ok.
I cant believe Toyota would have made 2 blunders like that one after the other.

nope, i have spent my tens of thousands on research on the 2LT/2LTE to confirm the rumors. i won't be doing it again with the KZ. i am sure there will be tons of importers stating the KZ is the next best thing since sliced bread and will make a killing selling these to the unwary customers with no warranty.

i'll pass. i like my customers.

Ok ,we still get factory difflocks, bullbars and winches :flipoff2:

Nope they love their Prados especially the women with their 95 and 125 series. A car salesman told me when a man walks in with his wife to buy a 4x4,he takes them to the Prado range and the wife just has to have it.
I guess because it has the 100 bling without the bulk.
They hold their resale value too. They want $16k AUD for a 96 diesel with 200K
I would not pay that price ,but someone does
