So yeah, seems all the cool kids name their rigs, figured I needed something catchy as well, failed to come up with anything. :)

Placeholder, pics, description, and build plan incoming. I figure this is the best place to track Q&A as I work my way through baselining this beast and building it up.

So recently, I purchased a 1993 FZJ80, 215k miles, some work already done. Maintenance records are hit or miss so I have decided just to go through and baseline it to ensure everything has been taken care of. I intend to keep this for a long while so any efforts put into it will pay off in the long run. All in all, it appears it just needs some TLC. As I have dug around, everything looks solid, runs well, just needs some work to get it back into DD shape as I intend.

As it currently stands, my plan is:

Baseline the vehicle and make it DD reliable
New 315x75r16 Toyo Open Country MT's
New Mickey Thompson Black Classic II's
Engo 12k Winch w/Amsteel Blue (replacing Warn M8000)
Interior and exterior LED lighting upgrades
Storage drawer system for rear
Roof rack - brand undetermined

So the first project started this weekend. After doing some research, and drawing on my own experience, I decided to run Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w40 oil in it. Feedback was great here, and I have always been a fan of quality synthetics, viewing it as cheap insurance. I went with the Toyota 90915-YZZD3 filter as it is the same as in my 2011 Tacoma and I had a couple in the garage already. Future plan is to go back to the OEM filter as clearly it is HUGE compared to the current D3.

After spending some time slowly preparing for the oil drain, I cleaned things like the fill cap and dipstick, and their surrounding areas, just to be able to better spot any leaks or such. 8 quarts is a lot of oil! Lol. Everything went off without a hitch and we were soon back up and in running condition. Could just be me, but I do believe it sounds better and runs a tad smoother than before, although the old oil wasn't horrible.

Next on the agenda was changing the transfer case fluid with some Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90. I quickly realized I lacked a 24mm socket so that was put off for another day.

I had already picked up some Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 for the front, and 75w110 for the rear, but I had some issues. Earlier, after eyeballing the front and rear differential drain plugs, I knew I was in for a treat. Both had rock rash and getting them off was not going to be an easy task. That project was also put off for another day to get some help from a nearby shop that has the tools I don't to make that an easy job. Also, got some good info posting up here and was pointed towards a new hex-head magnetic style plug. Looks like a great route to go...

New wheels and tires installed! Toyo Open Country M/T 315x75r16's and Mickey Thompson Baja Classic Lock 16x8 3 5/8" BS wheels. Fits perfect, balanced very well, and I love the look. Very pleased I went with this BS instead of the traditional 4 1/2" BS.
