very nice Honger,,,, i have a few parts yet to collect but am just about ready to get heat in mine, heater valve came from a toyota car during a junkyard day with my son.

i also got domes working, thanks in part to the very same junkyard day in Phx, toyota car to the rescue again, combined with the LED parts Odd Iron sells, VERY bright, perfect for camping.

which we need to do BTW.
Yes, we do!

Jan/Feb down here in the valley sometime? It's too cold up your way!

@Honger how is your iPad mount, um mounted? :)

I have a Ram 1" ball mounted into the top of the dash. Usually has an arm and cell-phone holder attached to it.

For the iPad I bought an Otterbox Case plus the Ram Tab-Tite mount for 8" tablets. It's an iPad mini. That mount is secured to the mounting ball and I rest it on the dash pad.

You can see the ball mount in the following photo:

I do need to put a fender washer on the underside of the dash to minimize the vibration in the ball mount. It's a bit wiggly when holding devices off-road.

The day after Thanksgiving we headed up to 8000' in the Coconino National Forest to find a Christmas tree. This year the harvest areas were the same as last year which was nice... I already knew an area with some solid specimens we marked on GPS last year.

Just a beautiful drive.

We made a campfire and had lunch before commencing the hunt.

Posed for a family photo before heading back to Phoenix.

Something I should have done while I was still in the UAE, but didn't, was refurbish my doors with new internals. My rear barn doors had developed an annoying and consistent rattle that I couldn't adjust out. Several of the rubber bumpers were missing and the internals were getting loose and jankity. So I broke down and ordered up all the parts needed to recondition the rear doors.

As I started disassembly... surprise! I found more fesh fesh.

As I do this work I'm always struck by how well some of the old parts clean up. A testament to the dry environment this truck came from. The passenger door handle assembly cleaned up nice, as did some hardware. I did reuse the door handle assembly and internal piece as it wasn't available new at the time I ordered. And it was in very good shape as is.

The rear driver's door needed loads of help.

I did all new rear hinge covers as well.

I need to find a few more of these...

And I uncovered a problem I'm going to need to address sooner than later...

To weld or order a new door?

When I moved to Phoenix I quickly learned the hard way that your front windshield is essentially a disposable item. My dad's T100, which I only had in town for 6 months, returned to Kansas with 4 nice rock chips. My wife's 4Runner now sports 5 rock chips. When I got insurance on the cars my agent told me that, in Phoenix, he adds a windshield replacement rider to all policies so that you can get up to one windshield per year without it impacting your premium.

The Troopy already had two nice rock chips in the windshield. It recently acquired a third which I thought was bad enough to get repaired/filled. When I went to check it out the next morning it was a crack as well... so it was time for a new windshield.

Since there are no aftermarket 70-series windshields in the USA, I got a new Toyota one! The windshield that was in my Troopy was 56111-60280... which includes the band of tinting across the top. I ordered that and had it installed with a new gasket while in Abu Dhabi as it came with a cracked windshield from Oman. Sadly, that part is a no-go here. Even with my HS7, it's not a part they can get. However, 56111-60220 was available next day with several in stock, and no HS7 required.

They came to my house to do the job which was nice. The guy knew what he was doing and loved the truck. There was no sealant on the existing gasket and he put it back in without sealant. Is that correct?

I've had luck with the $10 windshield repair kits you can get from Amazon or auto parts stores. You clearly can't fix giant chips like the one shown above but I've fixed a handful of smaller ones which prevented them from turning in to cracks in the sun or in cold temps as you warm up the rig. They work really well and will make the chip all but disapear. I think I have it down to about a 10 minute job when I get a chip now. I also find it keeps the cussing down when I do get a rock chip.... for what that's worth.

Buying a new door is the ultimate fix of course, but I would weld it.

And can if you want.
I'll likely take you up on that! I've got a welder but am very much still learning... would love some guidance and an assist with something like this.

That would be my first inclination, too. Seems like a fairly small amount of damage to necessitate a new door.

Both of my front doors were cracked and my buddy tig'd them back - super easy. Just be prepared for the heat to fry the paint on the other side of the door.

yessir, i welded a few cracks in my doors, and firewall, and floor, and rear quarter section and a few more that may pop up as time goes on.

corrugation life,, brah:cool:

Yeah, washboard roads destroy these old cars!

@Honger I forgot to tell you that the 180kmh face is completed and tested on a parts cluster I have laying around that has a metal face but you may be as unfortunate as me and a few others having the plastic face which is backlit and not metal...so the magnetic overlay option is out in that case. I know you said you were waiting for this version so I thought I would tell ya.

The pattern I am seeing so far is that the 70 series went from metal face to plastic face sometime in 1993 but that pattern may vary even more from market to market.

I'm very interested... and mine sure looks to be metal and the truck is a '91. This is so awesome. Are these easy to customize? I don't have a T-belt light.
Let me know where to send some $$$!

Do you have adobe illustrator? You can customize as much you want if so. Acrobat is possible also for editing but somewhat more limited depending on the software you have. In any case, the t-belt light and holes are super easy to remove.

I've got access to Acrobat pro as well as illustrator. Would I just make the edit and have you print?
