It’s weird when cruiser owners don’t stop and say hello.
That's what I think too... it's not like I'm trying to swap rubber duckies or anything, just chat cruiser builds.

So sorry to hear about your pup Joel!

I am sorry too Joel about your pup. Can imagine how dear it was to the kids...

Ive seen that cruiser before on a YouTube channel.
Seem like nice folks.

Thanks for the link! I'm going to reach out to them on social media.

Sorry about you pup as well. I lost my best friend in April way too early and I still tear up all the time and miss him everyday.

We just know while they were our friends for a small part of our life, we were there friends their whole lives.

Now I’m tearing up again.

Thanks for the kind words. There's not a lot that makes a grown man cry but losing a dog gets me every time. She was a good girl. Gone way too soon. But she was pretty sick at the end, so it was a bit of a relief to have her go.

Anyway, on with the Cruiser talk...

I've got an electrical issue plaguing my Troopy...

When I'm daytime cruising... can be slow (35mph) or fast (65mph) I end up with a flickering battery light.

It starts out as intermittent flickering and as I keep driving it will often proceed to being permanently on. What's weird is that when I check my battery voltage (using the Victron app from my solar charge controller) it shows the voltage is just fine and in line with the state of the solar charge (either bulk, absorption, or float). What's even weirder is that if I turn on the headlights or some other demanding load, the light goes away.

It seems to be compounding... the other day the radio just died on me completely and the clock was off (lost power). Then it came back on when I turned on the headlights (a demanding load).

1. It doesn't consistently act like a loose wire issue.
2. I have drives where it doesn't occur at all.
3. No fuses blown.
4. Alternator is about a year old; OEM Toyota Rebuilt unit.

What am I missing? What should I check? Any bright ideas on nailing this down?

Possibly the charge lamp relay. 27790-13010. Discontinued but there may be used floating around.

If other things check out, I would say Alternator, but since you say it's a recently installed rebuild... but even the Toyota remans can sometimes fail...

FWIW, the Charge Lamp Relay can be easily opened (careful! very brittle plastic) and cleaned with DeoxIT. Sometimes works. CRL is what triggers that Alt/Charge MIL. Have no idea where it is on your truck. On FJ60s LHD, it's under the pass kick panel.

The 3F Engine manual gives me this diagram for the charging circuit. Is it just simplified hence not showing a charge lamp relay?

If it's got one it'll be tucked away with a bunch of the other relays to the left of the radio and HVAC controls... I'll dig in.

Would this also manifest in issues with the radio/clock? OR am I maybe playing with two issues? The radio/clock one is more recent... so perhaps they aren't linked.

Shows behind the glove box for RHD. I don't see a LHD diagram. I can't comment on the wiring diagram. The parts catalog lists a charge lamp relay for the 3F application.

I believe this diagram applies to 1989 and prior. The charge lamp relay shows up in 1990.

There's a relay block that will have this relay if I have it... I'm sure I do.

The relay will have the part number on the housing someplace. 27790-13010 is what you are looking for.
I found a LHD diagram. Looks to be above the glove box insert.

It will say 'Charge Lamp Relay' on it

I never did get this Charge Lamp Relay located in my truck... have checked in the dash up behind/above the glove box... have checked in the dash next to the climate controls on a rack with a bunch of other relays... can't locate it for the life of me. Can confirm the alternator works fine... and the problem is very intermittent. Very frustrating.

I thought it was linked to a problem with the radio/clock going out on me. Finally found out that was a loose fuse in my fuseblock... and just went ahead and replaced all fuses that were original to the truck when I bought it.

It's been awhile since I've updated the thread. Life, both personal and professional, has been "tumultuous" the last year or so. But I've purposed to get back to regular on MUD... I miss the community here. And frankly need help on the death wobble explored in another thread.

Last summer my father taught my younger boy how to do some basic framing. A buddy of mine has property up north and wanted a 10x12 "cabin" built... and he hired my son to do it. All materials furnished by my buddy and my dad and son framed it all up including trusses in our yard... and then we disassembled it into panels and flat-pack towed it up to the property.

Here's my dad and son erecting it on site...

The fold-out table in the rear or the Troopy is great for early morning coffee...

And we picked up a K9 Cube shower and bathroom stall from @Equipt and that has been handy when out remote. My buddies property has some amenities now but it had nothing when we starting working up there.

Awning Repair
A bit of a bummer on one of my trips up to my buddy's property... the wind grabbed the shade awning and damaged one of the swing-out arms. The arm sheared off the swivel and one of the support legs was bent.

This is where the design of the K9 awning proves it's worth again. Just blown away by the intentional failure points that make for an easily fixable situation. The damage was constrained to the swivel piece as well as a bolt.

The hardware was easily fixed with a trip to my local ACE hardware (I have one nearby that fortunately has a great selection of metric). The swivel ended up being a quick phone call to @Equipt... who had a replacement swivel ready for self-repair as well as a replacement support leg.

With the abundance of rip-off design and manufacturing of cheap goods out there I am once again thoroughly pleased with this awning. Great kit.

So glad you were able to get a replacement of that rather unique extrusion.
