What if I didn't loop and instead just put BBs in all of those fender-side lines?

I did everything as you illustrate and I did notice quite a bit of low end torque, I will see how we do on MPG and post it once I have a result.

Great Post, Thank you.

Here's what I did to mine this afternoon. All looped except the middle line to the can, which is plugged. No time to drive yet, idle is now seductively silky smooth.

Edit to add:
Wow!
Total improvement in acceleration, goes up my very steep hill more quickly and without downshifting into 1st. I cannot wait to see what happens when the air pump belt comes off and the cats are disabled.

Did mine tonight. Thanks for the great write-ups and pictures spdwaver1 and JollyGreen.

:hhmm: I used to know a guy named Brandon, last name also began with a 'P,' lived in Lake Elsinore.

Anyway, post up your mileage when you get a chance; let's see if we can't get some collective figures.

To me it would seem to have the same end result. :meh:

Different Brandon P. :)

I just bought the LC last night so I am not sure what she was getting, but I will post my mileage after I get through a couple of tanks.

Thanks for clarifying.

I am still on the same tank, but I started out at 3/4-tank, so I will not know for another 1.5 weeks how much of a difference this will make.

I will say this: I can no longer see the needle move down to empty, so something must be right. ;)

Will diconnecting the lines at the throttle body affect vacuum at the fuel pressure regulator?

No....fuel pressure reg uses manifold vacuum I believe (could be wrong).
Why do you ask.... Is it hard to trace back the lines from the modulator to the TB? Maybe it is on the 3FE....not sure. On the 1FZE it is very easy to find the the 2 lines to pull off on the TB that go to the modulator.

Hard to see as the hard lines under the intake are hard for me to see well and the underhood diagram is not helpful as it shows no routing diagram for under the intake.

Ok, I went out and started the engine and vaccuum is present at the FPR when the TB hoses are connected or not. So unhooking the hoses at the TB seems to be safe.

gotcha......well you can certainly do the BB thing...

Its the 2 lines that go to the modulator that supply the vacuum to the system. So if you plug or cap or remove this vacuum source, the egr system will be shut down. Whatever way you do it...it doesn't really matter....just cut off the vacuum.

The TB is the source...so thats where I plugged mine off.

Great, I just capped the vacuum ports at the TB and sealed the two lines. All seems to be fine, thanks.

When you say everything is fine, what was wrong before? What difference did you notice? Had you passed smog before? Keep watch and let us (the guys sitting on the fence) know what changes you have found.

I thought it would be worthwhile to mention that I just got my CEL code 71 back. I will be looking further into this, then I will post up my results.

running this way for a few days now, no codes. I actually have one of the lines off completely. Three of the nipples for the hard lines were rust, one broke off. I am glueing the line on for esthetics mostly. I have the cats removed and have notice a slight increase in low end umph. Nothing major, but it wont be on this engine. Idle and starting is much better, especially during the "cold" front we just got down here. I want wait till I have no exhaust leaks and I can really measure this mod on the hills and such. Just waiting for the shop to tell me if they can do it. Im this close to buy some fence post and make a nice 2.5" post manifold setup. the bending would be the only hard part, patience.

Thanks for the good pics. I was confused on that when I did mine, just happened to get it right! I disabled the egr & pump. Like everyone else I noticed a little more power. I have run a tank & and a half since. Sadly it looks like I am still at 8 - 9 mpg. Guess i'll keep looking for ways to get better mileage.

First day on the EGR disable has been great. Revs easier and feels better. Doing the belts tommorow. And yes it passed smog last year better than the two years prior. The PO had not done and maitainace except oil and such. Good tune up makes big difference.
