I have a 1990 HDJ 81 Turbo Diesel Manual 5 Speed Part Time RHD Cruiser for sale. I picked it up a few months ago and have been dealing with CA DMV ever since with no luck. It has become apparent to me that I can not get it Legally Registered in CA so to use it I would need to get out of State Tags which doesn't work for my plans although it was very tempting to get a Montana LLC or Land in AZ .

267k kms/ 166k miles
LSD in the rear so full floating axle, no lockers.
Part time 4 wheel drive
5 speed just rebuild by Land Cruisers Direct before I bought it (H151F)
Turbo Gauge from Glowshift, including water temp, and EGT
New Kenwood double din head unit with Android Auto and iphone interface and backup camera
I also have the original radio that only gets Japanese radio frequencies
Remote start - Dunno how it works
BEBs done
Timing belt done recently
I have a new water pump
Winch up front including the controller
Toyota jack and tool bag as well
New accessory belts
Full OME 2 1/2" Lift kit including Coils, Shocks, Steering Dampner and Alignment bushes done within last 3000 mile ( Clears 35" tires )

The bad:
Head liner is not the best
no carpet in back cargo area
Cigarette burns in driver seat from original owner
Has the Gold and Silver 3 piece rim on it which are very pimp daddy and the tires although good tread are showing ageing cracks.

I know people love to join dots and investigate where it came from so here are the details with links, nothing to hide

The Vehicle was imported and Sold by Land Cruisers Direct and there are a heap of pictures and info which is still current - Land Cruisers Direct - 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81 VX #1935

They sold the Truck with a verrified milages of - 253,098 KM's / 157,204 Miles

It then went to the next owner who had it for a year or so and ran the mileage to - 266k kms/ 165k miles - you can see his for sale thread here - For Sale - SOLD 1990 HDJ81, 5 speed, part time 4 wheel drive

I have put about 100 miles on it and made no changes at all. It has either been in my shop or at DMV / CHP / CARB etc.

The only issue I have found is with the tires being age cracked and needing replacing and a small heater hose leak which was fixed. Rest of the truck is solid and it was great to have a RHD Manual back in the shop although the dream of being able to drive it in CA was short lived.

It currently has a Nebraska Title in the previous owners name signed over will Bill of Sale.

As long as it is sitting in my shop I am going to keep thinking about swapping over the running gear into a LHD CA Compliant FJZ80 but I have to many projects so would prefer to take my loss and keep playing with my 40's

Yeah I should have said that, pictures are from the LCC Direct site when it was imported. I will get current ones shortly but it hasn't changed and if someone is actually interested then the ones provided show exactly what it looks like and is.

If I was concerned about anything I wouldn't have openly linked to the LCC Sales posting and the Previous Owners posting.

It is a great truck and if I could get it titled in CA I would not sell it so if anyone out there has a "Way" of getting CA title I am happy to pay for your assistance :)

I only posted this listing after I had what will be me final meeting with the CARB guys and I will not miss dealing with those clowns and the truck is tucked up in the shop.

Here is one I snapped on its way to its first inspection :)

Nope but you had a very valid point and I should have clarified pictures where not current or mine even though it is still the same
there are a lot of scam sellers doing the same thing with others pictures

Nope it isn't in the system at all 100% guaranteed .

As far as other registering these I am yet to find a single HDJ Registered legally in CA since pre 2017.

Don't get me wrong there are some with Tags and Title but they are not compliant with the rules and having tags and title does not negate the rules it simply means their chances of getting caught are minimal.

Again i would love to be wrong but it was listening to people who had no clue about the rules or where happy to skirt around them that got me into this position in the 1st place so I want to make it 100% clear to anyone who buys it that legally tagging it in CA is NOT AN OPTION, working around the rules is if you want to go that way and this is why I was very careful to ensure DMV has no reference on file for the Vin # etc

Keeping in mind me telling people all this is detrimental to my sale chances but I don't want anyone else to go into this blind or thinking they can do what they can't and get caught in the same position.

If someone thinks I am wrong I will happily pay them $2k to go get me a legal CA title and Tags ..... I can't do more than that.

The first part is good news for you and a future buyer.. GLWS! Hmmm... I thought about this truck when it was last listed.
 
Interesting that some JDM ones came without the swingout tire carrier.

Do u think that rear cargo floor rust is from the cargo window leaking ? Its common that our U.S. split windows leak like a seive.......but i would have figured the solid windows wouldnt.

I believe that the Tire Carrier and Center Fridge etc where on the VX Limited usually an like lockers an option. The surface rust that was there when imported and since removed looked to have been from something spilling and since there was no rear carpet in there maybe it was sitting wet , I don't see how the rear single piece glass could leak But I have never actually looked at where those small side vents go they make let water in somewhere
