Engine running: 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser For Sale - Engine Running
This is a mostly original, stock looking FJ62 Land Cruiser. It has the original 3FE straight six engine and 4 speed auto tranny. It runs great, shifts great, engages 4 wheel drive, etc. When you drive this the suspension is solid, steering is solid, all 5 doors 'thunk' when you close them, it's not a rattle trap, all four windows easily go up and down, and all 5 doors power locks work. But, keep in mind this is 30 years old with 193k on the odometer, it is not a new vehicle, but has been extensively serviced with Genuine Toyota parts or equivalent over the past year. There are many 60 Series with 300k plus miles, with maintenance there's no reason this one won't hit well into that too. Original owners manual, tool kit & bag, jack, etc included. As well I have 3 keys for this, one is a Genuine Toyota key, the other two are duplicates.
This has been consistently driven and maintained over the last 30 years and is not a garage queen. It's not perfect, but it's a reliable daily driveable FJ62 that is currently used as my work vehicle to drive to customer appointments. This is one of the cleanest 60 Series that you are going to find, it's spotless inside and out despite the three decades of character marks throughout. It's nice enough to drive to the country club, rugged enough to tackle the Rubicon trail, and cool enough to get some smiles a the beach! Driving out to the coast yesterday to take these pictures, I put 220 miles on this Cruiser in 90 degree heat with the a/c blasting the whole way with zero issues.
The good: A lot of work has been done to this over the last year that I've owned it. This is what I can think of but I'm sure there's more
- New paint - all trim removed, front & rear glass removed, paint is the original color of Freeborn Red, and they put on 4 coats of clear. It's not going to win any points at the Concours D'Elegance, but it's considerably better than a Maaco paint job.
- A few new Genuine Toyota exterior emblems and that rubber thing around the rear door lock.
- New windshield.
- New Genuine Toyota windshield wipers.
- New Genuine Toyota windshield washer motor.
- New Genuine Toyota front & rear windshield rubber.
- New Genuine Toyota front chrome windshield pieces. Bling bling.
- New K02 BFG off road tires w/ ~6k miles on them. The full size spare is new and matches, same chrome rim too.
- New Billstein shocks on all four corners.
- New Marlin Crawler gaskets and seals throughout for the birfield joints(steering knuckles), including new Japanese made Yukon spindle bearings, new Japanese made KOYO front wheel bearings, felt, wipers, inner & outer axle seals, lock washers, and hub gaskets.
- New slotted front brake rotors...racing Cruiser! Should prevent warping though.
- New front wheel studs(12), new chrome lug nuts(24)
- New Genuine Toyota brake pads.
- New Genuine Toyota brake hoses throughout. All four corners were bled w/ new fluid too.
- New Genuine Toyota caliper pins, caliper bolts & washers, and clips. New Genuine Toyota banjo bolts and washers too for the brake lines.
- New OME steering stabilizer
- New SOR front drag links/tie rod ends & recent alignment
- New greaseable anti inversion shackles, greaseable pins, and leaf spring bushings. I wanted to swap out the leafs and put a slight lift on it, but then it wouldn't fit in my garage, so it'd be very easy to do if you decide to lift as everything else is new.
- Completely new custom exhaust system from the manifold back including (2) new OEM cats, (2) Denzo O2 sensors, and a fancy stainless muffler. New hangers, bushings and what not too.
- New Genuine Toyota transmission shifter bushings.
- New Genuine Toyota gas cap.
- New Genuine Toyota window runs.
- Driver's seat fabric replaced with original FJ62 cloth, some repairs were done to the cushion bottom as well.
- New dash cap(the dash is cracked underneath).
- New stereo w/ Bluetooth, usb & aux jacks, Spotify, and hands free(the mic is on the steering column).
- All new pioneer speakers behind the original speaker grilles(one guard is missing from the RR speaker).
- Footwell LED lights added for all four seats. Sounds weird, but man it makes a difference at night.
- All interior lights(dash, instrument cluster, dome, etc) swapped out with LED bulbs.
- New LED headlights. They're not great to be honest, but way better than the original headlights. The wiring's still original and unmodified for the headlights, but I had to make a pigtail adapter to make these LED headlights work, and as a result the high beams aren't hooked up. You can go back to stock headlights in a few minutes, but if you want LED headlights and high beams it'll be a small project.
- Really bright reverse LED bulbs.
- New OEM tail lights(2) & rubber gaskets.
- New OEM side marker lights(4) & gaskets.
- Fresh fluids throughout.
- New Genuine Toyota drain plugs, fill plugs, and gaskets for the front diff, rear diff, & t-case.
- New Genuine Toyota engine oil filter
- New Genuine Toyota washable air filter.
- New Genuine Toyota battery, battery tray, and battery bracket.
- New Genuine Toyota spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
- New Genuine Toyota PCV valve and grommet.
- New Genuine Toyota fuel filter
- New a/c compressor, dryer, o-rings, oil, and converted to R134. It blows cool, but not as cold as the R12 it was originally designed for. Works great in OR, might need some love if this Cruiser ends up in say Phoenix.
- New OEM three core brass radiator. New coolant.
- New Genuine Toyota thermostat
- New OEM Aisin water pump
- New Genuine Toyota upper, lower and other lower coolant hoses(new Genuine Toyota clamps too). Some other new heater hoses and heater bipass hoses as well.
- One or two new Genuine Toyota bumper corners, I can't remember.
- Three or four additional grab handles were added in the interior too, if you notice they're everywhere, stock FJ62's only have one per seat. They all used the original holes/threads for the hardware, no modifications were made to the body(non US market 60 Series have grab handles in different locations).
The bad: Nothing major, more quirks than anything, I'd rather disclose them here than you have find out later.
- It leaks engine oil. I think it's the rear main, and probably other areas too. I add 1-2 quarts between oil changes.
- It leaks a drop or two of transmission fluid over night(since changing the oil in the trans and t-case a year/7k miles ago I've only once added fluid to either and both are still full)
- The OME steering stabilizer is bigger than the OEM one, as such the front skid plate won't fit on anymore(it's included w/ the hardware).
- There's a little bit of driveline slop. It sometimes clanks going into reverse(normal for the age/mileage).
- There's a little bit of rust on the frame around the spare tire and the bottom inside edge of the drivers door.
- All windows easily go up and down, but the master switch won't roll up 1 out of the 4 windows(left rear). All the other door window switches work aok.
- When it's colder there are no interior rattles, when it's hot there are a few.
- The rear heater does not work
- The antenna will not go all the way down, but otherwise functions aok. It's a good reminder for you to never take this through a car wash with brushes...just brutal on car's paint.
Past that, if you have any question, feel free to ask.
Clean title in hand. Open to reasonable offers.
