Has a threaded rod to the wastegate, does that mean I can adjust the boost with this instead of shimming?

I was advised by the owned when I bought the vehicle that to engage 4wd to swap the 2 lines that are twisted together on the VSV, this works fine, when they are switched the transfer button light does come on when the button is off the light does go off but doesn't disengage the 4wd, can I confirm it is the VSV that is faulty.

you have 24V VSV, right
replace with 12V VSV from the wreckers and a 3 way switch to a 12V source (radio)
$35.

Just an update on progress.
LAst friday night fitted up some LED spot lights that work exceptionall y well. Pics coming
Saturday morning the starter locked on, checked all the electrics, diagnosed the starter, pulled that out and auto electrician fixed it that day $135.
Sunday bought some wheels with 33" tyres 50% tread, will fitt them hopefull on the week end. PIc coming.

Also replaced the cooling hose to the turbo as it was leaking slightly, metal line in between was no good, removed and made it all rubber from the thermostat to the turbo.

HAs been a little hot here lately and my temp has been a little higher than normal, I have checked everything and all water levels are ok and no bubbles, so I am thinking it is just the hot weather nothing to be concerned about.

My Gauges will be here next week so I will have a better idea of whats going on with the engine.

Nice rig dabasscow, I have one just the same. Sorry to hear about your cooling woes. Luckily you came across her cheap. How many miles are on her? That 13B-T is a gem.

THanks Cult45, I am happy with the engine still a few things I want to check when money permits. currently having some isues getting the new gauges working, so I can see what my EGT are more acurate water temp, currently boost is about standard at 8 psi.

Are you after castor wedges to get the overall castor back into spec like Hultsy did, or do you need an offset bearing kit to get it driving strait again?

Holidays have permitted s few days on the cruiser, pulled the injectors to get them checked as my fuel economy is about 19.5 litres / 100km (a little high I think), they are all tested fine.

Pyro has been intermittent and flickering, when it did work on standard boost temps were high on full load, increased boost to about 12-13 psi and egt's are reasonable, at 100km 500C post turbo, put the foot down at 100 and temps are climbing. After doing the injectors the pyro worked properly no flickering.

Noticed considerable oil in the intake from the PCV, thinking of fitting a catch can.

Taco has stopped working, still trying to track that issue.

Last gauge sender to install is the auto trans temp.

Hi! Nice BJ 74! First time I have been on mud in over 2 years.......using a friends computer, homeless and no smart phone. I got sick (i was always a little sick he he lol). I had to get the operation like 7 months before I noticed something was wrong so I had to pay at a private clinic hospital took everything I had Considered unemployable having no coordination and a harsh speech immpediment.

Anyhow I live out of my BJ 74 for the last 2 years. Im happy and this is not supposed to be an uppsetting story. What I am getting at is I have had my 74 for almost 8 years and the last 2 years I use veggie oil ,gear oil cut with some lawnmower gas, just about any type of combustable fluid a little thicker than gasoline..... the majority of it being used engine oil having to service the sedimentor 3 or 4 times a day. I have never had to service the injectors yet and the odo reads 333,000 kms and I purchased it with 123,000. I love it more today than when I first got it. Thanks enjoy!

Thanks for the heads up on the solenoids

I was advised by the owned when I bought the vehicle that to engage 4wd to swap the 2 lines that are twisted together on the VSV, this works fine, when they are switched the transfer button light does come on when the button is off the light does go off but doesn't disengage the 4wd, can I confirm it is the VSV that is faulty.

Did you ever fix these? There is a number of things that can stop the vacuum shift working.Leaky hoses for a start. Got power to the "faulty" solenoid?

Hi Rosco,
Thanks for the reply, not fixed yet, I have not checked the wiring yet, but I have just aquired a multimeter and I will check the power before I look at getting a new VSV. I don't think the lines are leaking as I can swap them over and engage 4x4.

Hey dabasscow, Oldtoy's previous owner did not replace VSV, he put in 2 x 24v solenoid valves as a replacement, saying it was a much cheaper alternative than the expensive VSV on the firewall, I take a snap for your ref, they light up also when activated. P/o was an engineer, I have had no dramas with it to date

Thanks Oldtoy74, I did look at other solenoid options but they wern't that cheap, if you can post photos and part numbers would be great, the other thing is the guy I spoke to at the solenoid shop said they were a lot larger than the OE ones
