i love stories that start with "apparently" or supposedly ...
what is the history of the truck?
ex-wheeling truck?
ex-kid-driving-s***-out-of truck?
those 13BT engines stand up to a LOT of abuse, probably one of the most reliable engines i have seen.

take a vid of the bubbles

Aparently the cooling system was replaced 12 months ago

I removed the thermostat and it appeared faulty, filled the cooling system again and keeps loosing water through the over flow bottle, with the cap off constant bubbles when cold.

Do you have access to a good radiator shop that can check the integrity of your radiator?

I think it was just bad luck, I have posted some pictures for all as well I will try to get some video of the bubbles later. It is fairly strait honest cruiser paint a little faded but interior is clean and tidy.

Thanks for your reply John, It 's going in on Wed next week to be fixed, I still have my fingers it's just a head gasket.

I was considering buying SWB Patrol, I went to the Northern Territory when I was in Primary School in a Mq patrol SWB turbo Diesel. Before that we had a Fj45, if I recall correctly. Back then it was OK to drive around with people in the tray. I have good memories of sitting on a pile of mattresses in the back with my cousins, any difficult terrain we were told to get out and walk to the other end of the obstacle while the oldies navigated through. Good times. I am looking forward to sharing similar times with my son.

Well the head is F##@ed cracked in all 4 chambers, can;t source a new head carcaus for a 13bt. From reading on other threads sounds like the 14bt head is a candidate. Can any one confirm this?

Any one know of were I can get a 13bt head in Australia?

Also water pump looks like OE hasn't been removed yet to see what condition the impellors are but mechanic recons not pumping well.

Radiator is getting tanks removed and cleaned as well.

Thanks for your reply Hulsty, I have been slowly getting through your thread, Nice rig.
I did see you had the 14bt head, I had a look at that thread and I am just really needing to know if it is a strait bolt on Item, do you know who built your motor all the head shops won't confirm they are interchangeable

that is one abused or neglected engine ...

you might want to pull the pan and check the bottom end at this time.

yes, inspect the bottom end for damage.
heat that high might have caused the oil to boil...

Thanks for the tips Crushers and Cicak,

Cicak is it essential to use the 14bt timing gear and pump if using 14bt head?

Crushers, do you mean remove the sump and remove the all the bearing caps and check?

No but its a lot smoother . Not sure which cam you need as mine still has 13B- t cam I would assume 14b-t cam needed

All good tips, my budget is limited at the moment, as everything was working fine with no noises, I will need to find a good second hand head from somewhere as no new available and put it back together and hope for the best.
So far we are putting a new water pump on, new thermostat (82 deg C, not 88 deg C as listed) radiator is getting tanks removed and cleaned.
I have to do a deal with my mechanic to get it fixed, I am swapping my 1976 mini panel van I have had for 15 years.
