How do I tell if I have a modified valve body in the A44o to lock up 3rd gear. I have seen threads how to check if it is locking up in 4th. Already has an additional oil cooler fitted wondering if it has been modified previously.

Next on the agenda is the suspension, I have worked in the suspension industry for 7 or so years starting on the tools and working my up way into sales.

Most likely a budget build, plan on resetting the front springs up as the nose is down a bit, currently has some Monroe shocks up front, rear has EFS springs and what looks like OE shocks.

:D Finally got the rig back with the new head, runs heaps smoother. I don't think I have lock up in 3rd, auto is shifting nicer as well. 13bt is a great engine IMO.

Much better with more boost and a stick shift

Cicak, thanks for the tip, it is actually the 1st auto car I have owned, I usually prefer a manual as well but I am getting lazy as I get older and I was set on buying a 73 or 74 this one came up locally and is a fairly tidy vehicle compared to others around. It should suffice for my needs. Did I read you changed yours from auto to stick?

Ya was a slush puppy when we installed the bj74 engine and gearbox in hated it. Installed the Rodney kit still hated it . The stick shift conversion best thing ever did to it then the engine mods.

Hi gents, I have been reading your posts on the auto and stick options, I have had the pleasure of owning a bj74 with an auto, no dramas, more than capable, moved that bj on 8 years ago and regretted ever since, although now I'm back in the game with another bj 74 with a stick this time round, and totally enjoying the HD nature of the stick. All fun & games.

Yes, now you mention it, I did the same, stayed in 3rd around town, due to the same reason, it's no real issue though, I really enjoyed the laziness of the auto, and super when in the bush as well, I had 32" rubber, and I was thinking that would've contributed to the ratio been out, maybe not, The 4th gear to me always felt more like an overdrive,
Cheers

Hi Oldtoy74, 4th is an over drive in these autos. I have 31's at the moment will go to 32's next. I would like 33's but the police are targetting 4x4 here is Queensland at the moment and are only allowed 1' larger diameter than standard.

I got a ticket last week for no mud flaps. I said to the officer I just bought it with a safety certificate, he carried on with his spiel about 4x4's and there dangers and gave me a $110 ticket.

I have later found it is not a requirement to have mud flaps, letter is being sent to fight the ticket.

SOme are Crushers, a few years ago I had my spare on that was near bald, front head light out and a few other things they could have pinned me for. I said I was waiting for my tax return and was going to fix it. No ticket sent me on my way.

I have recently found out mud flaps are a requirement now. Doesn;t seem that any one with a safety certificate licence knows yet.

don't get me wrong, i have respect for a cop doing his job.
it is the ones that are power tripping idiots that i have no respect for.
cops in this area are really cool, they do their job well. they will let you off with a warning or notice instead of a fine where the offense isn't life threatening but come down hard where need to be. i can respect that.

Must of had a PTO at some point in is's life to have this lever hole.
