Well I finally got my ute back from the mechanics today what a stuff up the ute was going in for new clutch and brake masters and starter motor swap to put in the one I had reconditioned and it all starts there so the original 12ht died so I put the one out of my hj47 in it and it was getting tired I had the one that the mechanic gave me back recoed and they go to fit it and it's the wrong starter so it so instead of getting my 12ht one back they gave me a different one and I had it reconditioned and it must be for a petrol motor it is heaps smaller so I had to buy a new one and then it got worse with the clutch master it needs to be adjusted more but it can't so they will get it back next week and have to cut the rod to get more adjust ment the clutch engages at full height of the pedal so me knee hits the steering wheel the old one engaged near the floor which I prefer . The good news is they finally found my water leak it's been loosing coolant since the new radiator its leaking out the heater tap into exhaust manifold so it evaporates straight away but the ute had been sitting all day so we found that at least. The big old starter is the one off the hj47 the small one is the reconditioned one

Yeah I think so I could have done the stuff myself but just don't have time now because I am back working lucky I could borrow the work ute all week.

At this point in time I am just going to save up till January next year and buy either a brand new dual cab or a good second hand one for the right price I am a bit over old vehicles at the moment

Yep at some point it will be for sale

Isuzu would be my pick if your not going Toyota but you got a very strong beast mate that will last many years.

I liked rodeo's when they had Isuzu motors so I may end up with a D max or Colorado or newer v8 cruiser

Do they really have Hilux running gear that's something I didn't know I thought they still had just a smaller front diff but cruiser gear everywhere else

The new v8 needs the engine lifted to remove the starter but please don't quote me but this is all hear say. The HDJ79 has a piss weak gearbox that blows after heavy use and you know how the 80 front diff holds once the turbo engine gives it a few thousand K in constant 4wd. The models from 1985 to 1990 was the last of the toughest breed in my eyes. :)

That is true the old tough ones were the best I just need something with a bit more room I was going to buy another 80series but that would probably get stolen like the last one so I thought I need a wagon /ute so dual cab it is I will see what happens

How's your ute going is the paint finished

The panels are done in 058 white to match the pick up tub and the cabin was in the painting bay on Thursday so it should be done by now. I might go up today and snap a few pics while its completely stripped down.

Hi Oz.
Just have to pull you up on a few things. To remove the starter on the new v8's you have to remove the intercooler, egr cooler, and fuel system. Pita but engine stays. Vdj and hdj both share the same h150f gearbox which is a heavy duty box. The hzj79 came with the weak r151f box (hilux variant) and is known to fail. The smaller 8" hi pinion from diffs came out in 1990 on the 80's and 75's and isn't a real problem unless snatching/towing in reverse. Easy fix is a arb locker in front.
Just a bit of misinformation.

Btw your utes looking awesome chappo.

All good locked79 sounds like you have your hand on the pulse but after my research I was shocked on what I read on the net about the 1990 later models maybe I shouldn't believe what I read on the internet. :)

Thanks locked love your gear with the GTurbo did you get a GTurbo on the v8 yet

Nah not yet. Hopefully in the next 6 months. Im selling the hdj when I get home to fund my other projects. Might even do a build thread on the vdj (coil all round, flipped radius arms, Gturbo etc...) Same old story, no time, no money haha.
Have a good one
