Hey all,
I'm about to register my California registered BJ74 in Colorado, at which point registration it currently has may not be able to happen again. I am putting it up for sale at a premium, price is non-negotiable. I did a lot of work to get it registered, and I have received renewals from the DMV with no issues. It did not go through the full process some have to go through, I worked with a VIN verifier and was extremely studious with my paperwork and got it in and with a light touch, title transfer shouldn't be an issue if it stays in CA. It has had Cali reg since 2018 with no problems.
I have done a lot of work to get it to be the reliable, wonderful vehicle that it is, and it's about halfway through it's final transformation into a mild mannered off road ready daily driver. All hydraulic components have been rebuilt or replaced. It has a 2" lift and 35x10.50 Kendas on FJ Cruiser wheels with Spidertrax spacers. It has Nitro 30 spline front axles, new seals and bearings installed up front, new TREs, brakes, ect. Drives GREAT! Has proven reliable, done a few trips between LA and Denver with no issues, gets about 20mpg, does 70 on the freeway with no complaints. I'm convinced it'll do 88 mph at which point I'll bet you'll see some serious s***. I haven't tested that aspect yet because I'm not prepared to break the space/time continuum just yet. Waste gate has been shimmed to produce about 10psi of boost with pyro and boost gauges installed.
It is not a perfect truck, but a clean compliment worthy driver. The paint is the typical sun damaged/resprayed weirdness you tend to see with JDM vehicles from this era. Interior is good, currently the driver's seat is an almost matching brown seat I got as a stand in with plants to put new seat foam in original seat, which I have. Power windows and everything works. AC works but has a leak I haven't been able to track down, has a half assed R134A conversion that works great with a new AC compressor. I just need to track down the leak. Has a ripping bi-amped stereo that I have running off of a 12v electrical subsystem I installed in the body panels running off of a big 24 to 12v step down convertor. Back seat also has seatbelts and a Euro roll ball installed.
Here's a bullet point version of the truck to the best of my recollection:
-230000 Kilometers (144,900 miles, purchased with 208000 Kilometers), factory cable lockers, H55F manual, Power windows, all the JDM goodies, everything works
-New clutch hydraulics
-80 Series brake booster, original master (stops like a champ)
-New Nitro 30 spline front axle shafts with knuckle rebuild (original trunnion bearings stayed because they were tight and in great shape with perfect knuckle alignment)
-New OE front brakes, rear shoes have about 50% and are adjusted
-Factory CT26 Turbo waste gate shimmed to 10psi, pyro boost gauges installed
-Straight piped (because it's a turbo diesel, it's not loud and has passes the wife test, she doesn't even know I did it, HA!)
-OME Medium 2" suspension lift, front axle relocated 1.25" forward, tires clear, works great
-35x10.50 Kenda Klevers on restored FJ Cruiser steelies with Spidertrax wheel spacers, 3000 miles on wheel/tire combo
-Euro Roll bar in the rear with seatbelts
-MB Quart 6.5" door speakers, MB Quart 8" Marine pods on roll bar, MB Quart 10" Marine sub loose in the back (So I can move it around when I haul gear), runs off of bi amped Alpine class D amps, stereo RIPS and is a fairly clean installation! JL Bluetooth and preamp in dash, factory head unit in place for posterity. 24-12v step down convertor hidden in the left side body panels to run all of the off the shelf 12v accessories your nerdy heart desires
-Customized Front Runner Roof Rack with light bar wired into factory fog light switch
-Odyssey batteries
-Rebuilt alternator
-Turbo timer
-New AC compressor with 24V clutch w/later Toyota dyer, runs R134A. System works great but has a leak that I need to sniff out.
-Top is ok, clear coat has UV damage. Will need some R&R at some point. I cheated in some new sliding window seals without removing the frames earlier this year, everything seals but it isn't a restoration quality job.
-Paint is so-so, as mentioned has Japanese respray on hood and UV damage on original paint. Has good rockers, did a full rust removal job a couple years ago and welded in new panels, still looks classy
-Factory PTO removed (worked great), still have it. I grafted the front bumper onto the truck as a place holder until I have time to get my new Coastal Off Road bumper ready. It looks fine, but isn't exactly "correct"
What does it need? Not much, really. Gotta find the AC leak, needs a new hood liner, the interior light fell down into the factory roll bar while I was installing the Euro rear roll bar and I never bothered to fish it out, it worked fine. Has a small rust spot that developed on the left front fender that should be addressed, top will need work within the next few years.
So why am I selling? Well, my wife keeps telling me to get something new and I'm been toying around with that concept, I have a Bronco on order, at least in theory. I LOVE this Land Cruiser and while I don't want to sell, if I could get top dollar and get into a new rig it would be better for my family. If it doesn't sell during this round, I'm going to complete it's transformation into the off road ready BJ74 of my dreams with 3:1 t case gears and body armor I have sitting in the shop ready to weld up when I have time, some suspension tweaks. When that's done, I'm going to Moab at the end of October where I'll take it down some big s*** and if it does well it's mine forever.
Included in the sale are new in box 3:1 gears (if I don't install them first), Nitro rear axle shafts, factory PTO, factory radiator, a bunch of electrical stuff, original axle shafts and the usual trail spares.
Price is $24K. It's currently residing with me in Boulder, it drives 40 miles every day and brings a smile to my face every time I hop in it. I won't drive it back to meet you because I'll honestly cry the whole way, but it'll do the drive to CA if you want (or anywhere else). No, you can't have any parts. It comes complete, with the spare parts. I don't want any reminders of it floating around because if it does sell it'll be pretty painful.
If you want more pictures, message me and we'll proceed via text.
