1987 4runner rear brake

Hi Guys,

every time I go through a mud hole i lose my back brakes... any ideas? I just replaced rotars and shoes. brakes were great, then i went muddin and as usual no rear brakes again....

This is the problem with drum brakes. Mud gets in, but it won't come back out.

Swap to rear discs, problem solved.

Any suggestions for disk conversion kits? I though marlin crawler had them but i can’t find them on the website anymore... maybe it was another place.

This is what I'm using:

Toyota Disc Brake Brakets + Optional Kit - Sky's Off-road Design

Takes common Chevy Monte Carlo calipers, ~$20 each fully loaded. The toughest part is the brake rotors, you can buy them from Sky or buy Chevy truck rotors and have them machined out.

Overall an easy swap. Be advised you lose your e-brake capability. I solved this with a t-case e-brake setup.
