When you ask a huge amount for something, you invite criticism. So.........................yes, it's nice, but despite the time and money spent, it's still a South American mule with a non-Japanese bed, and all that goes with that. Modernized, but is it-- forgot the headrests and after all that bodywork, where's the three-point seatbelts, butt heaters, and fine Corinthian leather? Usable space in the bed is hogged-up, interior legroom consumed by an oversize HVAC addition, huge engine--all point to its real intended use-- showin' off at the Dairy Queen on Saturday nights. For an '85, they even omitted the interior light that comes-on when opening the doors. Oh, might want to rethink the placement of that rear brake line. And so on.

Everything has a value, but "value" doesn't equal "price." Company probably used the same recipe they use to doll-up the astronomically-priced Power Wagons for the Siilcon Valley uber-techs. But, will leave it at that; time for someone else to spot some more interesting features. Pass.

eBay has turned into a huge fishing expedition, let’s ask a stupid price for an item and see if anyone steps up! This in turn signals to everyone that there 15 k Fj45 might be a 6 figure rig now???? Just like the $1500 steering wheels, jacks, seats, etc...It’s too bad what’s happening to the whole car collecting industry, it’s pushing the small guys out. Even australia has woken up, all the hj47 utes and troopys were 5 to 7k a couple years ago, now look at gumtree, 20 to 30k!!! Guess I should throw an ls in my 45 and ask 6 figures🙄

So, you're telling me my 45 with a 5.3 could fetch around a 100K? And I missed out on Gamestop!

Evaluating one of these is relative to the asking price, which is unknown in an auction. What is acceptable at $10,000 is not what is expected at $50,000. So, as the bids increase, so should the quality of the build, and the fine-eye for details. The photos appear to be taken in Colombia, so in-person checks of the bodywork, the interior, engine, etc. is impossible for an unknown restorer with no history. The higher the price climbs, the more caution should increase as well.

Brian, I personally would prefer to have your 45 then the one advertised..

Michael, how could you tell that the pictures were taken in Columbia? Just curious, no plates on the 45..

How are your 45s?

Edmond,

Never absolute, especially with fuzzy photos, but there are a number of telltale indicators. Some examples: Ad copy stating Colombian history. Then typical school bus yellow license plates, style of overhead electric, stop signs written "PARE". Spanish wording on trash receptacles, glimpses of brightly colored housing, etc.. The native-brick buildings, medium high-rise apartments probably indicate a better residential district in Bogota.

Almost all the "restored" South American Land Cruisers first show up in either Texas or Florida, but despite similar heritage and local culture, these photos with the covered license plates were taken elsewhere, not in Texas, where the truck is supposed to be sitting currently. Why hide Colombian plates when selling to Americans?

As for us, we are all fine here, and hope the same for you !

I can see definitively that it's not a North America model. It's a '74 with no heater and the speedo is in KPH instead of MPH.

The US never got any of the longbed pickup trucks after 1967; Canada did get some in the mid to late seventies, and they have specific required items, some unique to Canada only. Reasons usually given for Toyota FJ45 pickup trucks leaving the American market include the "Chicken tax", protectionism for the US pickup truck manufacturers, requirements for percentage of domestic content, etc.--not something wrong with the trucks. As with the FJ40s, continual improvements and design refinements to the pickup trucks were made thru the years, since they were sold worldwide. This being a 1974 model, metric speedo, no heater, non-USA spec is fine in itself.

The issue, to me, with the flood of recent Central/South American imports, is one of deception and dishonesty and misrepresentation. As an example, this particular seller will provide photos of the work that was done AFTER the buyer completes the purchase--just a little late--after the horse has left the barn.
What was photographed, what was not, what was Bondo'd over, what was poorly welded, or slathered with grease or undercoating, is all questionable. The statement about factory power steering isn't accurate--this year never came with power steering--so just exactly what was added? The wear-and-tear from being used "in the rainforest" is concerning, as is the odometer showing only 1,012km--is that 101, 012km, or 201, 012km, how about 301,012km? Some of these sellers are simply out to make a fast buck, and will slap together whatever it takes to git 'er done. What do we know about THIS seller?

I'm not buying one of these, but hopefully someone new here might read the various member comments and feel the need to investigate further, and be very cautious about what they are told, not get taken to the cleaners by being dazzled by all the shiny lipstick. Initial appearance looks great, but maybe time to delve deeper. At the "right" price this could be a good purchase, but it looks like the bidding may have climbed beyond that. <----------Anyway, that's my opinion.

By the comments in the auction. It sounds like this one is still in the port with import papers, taxes, etc. still to be done. That adds expense and headaches.

^^ those two have been for sale on again off again for a long time.
