So after much reading- it looks like the bj74s are not canadian vehicles and are JDM imported to canada. The 25 year rule only applys to Canadian Spec imported cruisers.

Thanks for clarifying this...

BTC95....... I can not drive the truck across the border to meet you.
Sure you can.....you Canadians are always welcome down south.
I see plenty heading to Florida this time of the year.:)
Yours would not be the first 70 Series to be driven into the U.S. and unfortunately develop mechanical issues and have to be left behind ( on a temporary basis)...........1978HJ45

flights to montana (just across the border from Regina) r cheap these days........

If it makes any difference this Cruiser was assigned a British Columbia VIN when imported originally.

And I question the non importable thing as there are many RHD JDM 25 year old vehicles running around the US right now.

Bugsnbikes, can you please post some supporting info or links showing that a non Canadian Vehicle is not import eligible to the US. Everything I can find indicates the opposite. And there are many examples of 25 year old RHD vehicles in the USA. I have a hard time believing these are all "grey" market vehicles that have just slipped through the cracks.

"The law says: "any motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old" is not subject to importation restrictions."

"In 1998, NHTSA granted vehicles over 25 years of age dispensation from the rules it administers, since these are presumed to be collector vehicles."

"A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS."

I was thinking along the same lines, there are many rigs from OZ here in the states, also the 78 BJ40 just imported directly from Japan, by a company in WI.

side note, I was trying to get the wife interested in it, she declined, but at least she looked at it.

"there are many rigs from OZ here in the States" ....my 1985 HJ75
( from Australia ) is proof that this is a correct statement.
