. BJ42 LX best 40 ever built IMHO but I am bias I suppose. Looks like she even still has the original rims which is a good pick up.

Thanks Ken, the standard 42 was not bad either? Missing the back 60/40 seats and drivers rear door card, yes , original rims. Not going to stress about the missing seats etc as I believe they are near impossible to source?Welcome to MUD
Would you have the correct colour for the rear carpet, don't say brown
Rear seats are available second hand mate if you look around although they are not cheap. You quite often see them over here in Aust for sale. I have a set under my house for my LX which I am about to hopefully start rebuilding. As for the carpet I dont really think anyone knows what the actual colour is for it. I did a search on MUD and came up with this link.

Thanks Ken, much appreciated. I will keep looking, personally, apart from the ascetics and originality of the vehicle, I don't think they are that practical ? I kind of like the load space with the buckets seats, which I have in brown leather to match the front seats. Don't get me wrong, I would jump at the chance of getting a set, but I cannot see any of my mates (who are a certain vintage and shape) been able to get in and out of them without a hoist ??. Have a attached a photo of my mate who is quite happy with the front seat
I think your restoration thread is excellent and I only wish I had a fraction of your patience and skills to use on my 42.

No dramas. I may have worded it wrong its not the seats I am rebuilding, its the whole vehicle. Going to do a full frame up resto on her the same as my green one. Just wish I could locate a source/supplier for the the seat covering material.

Yes , I agree. I assume its down to pure supply and demand? Was it only the Aussie LX that had that fabric? If so, I guess the demand in only there and exports? I would certainly use this material on my bucket seats as well and maybe standard 40's might want to use option as well?
Is there a Toyota spec for the material ?
I believe that all the LX series came out with that fabric (I stand to be corrected) however only a few countries received the LX. I dont believe that they were ever exported to the US or Canada. Also from what I know there were only about 10000 ever made between the petrol and diesel models.

Would appreciate opinions on my ground clearance for the fuel filter, I will post better pictures later.
Basically, there is only 10 inches of clearance from filter to ground and 13 inch to chassis? Hadn't noticed this before?

Looks too vulnerable to being knocked and damaged to me.
I wouldn't be happy with any under-vehicle installation unless I could "belly" my cruiser on a sharp mound without risk of any of the mound coming into contact with it.

That's not stock mate. The stock fuel filter location is a dual screw on type up at the motor like that big orange one below:

Don't know why the PO installed an inline filter, believe the vehicle spent all its life in Sydney, maybe just wanted to see the fuel quality, could it be that there is an issue with dirty tank ? Don't know, either way, its too low?

Wait till you buy the rest of the rubber bits. They're all pricey but OEM is the best you can get.

Too late, I am afraid, that was more or less the last pieces i needed, I have nothing against aftermarket, but OEM is way to go if possible on weatherstripping , have taken the pain already !!!!. Thanks

It's too low to go off road IMO, but for the minute it'll be fine. The tank's probably full of s***e, so a drain and clean out would be on the list to do, however it can't be too bad as the sight glass in that filter is clean. Not urgent though if it's running sweet, coz by draining the tank and moving that filter ya gotta:
a] drain the tank.
b] re-plumb fuel line.
c] may as well replace that fuel filter whilst you're there.
d] bleed the fuel system.
e] fire her up.
Probably a couple hours in it. Might have bigger fish to fry?
Now that photo shows how ridiculously vulnerable that fuel filter really is!
It would bring me joy in your shoes because as Cult says, it can't have gone seriously off-road (or even on metal roads) like that so your low-range gears have probably seen very little use and that BJ42 shouldn't have had many knocks or got the chassis full of stones/mud etc etc.
There's a drain plug in the bottom of the fuel tank for draining out water and whatever else is on the bottom so no need for that extra filter/trap at all in my opinion.
A half-inch square drive (without even the need to use a socket) works fine to undo it for draining .... but beware .... it is a messy job. (Make sure your tank is no more than 1/4 full before attempting to drain some of it, or else the pressure will be too high.)
