I agree, very tempted myself. But would be harder for me because my 82 only has a dismantling title in another person's name. Guy I got from said it was in his ex wife's name and she pasted away. Sold the homemade trailer it was on for scrap and was money ahead. Had the room (he didn't) and deal was too good to pass up. Tub on my 82 isn't that bad but not as nice as this one. Since I already have so many parts already could live with a salvage title. Just have to realize it will never be a big dollar cruiser.

I do not see how a salvage title would effect a restored vehicle. Especially rare ones. Some of these FJ40s being sold are a mismatch of parts and even other than Toyota engines. Granted, it would never be the purist vehicle getting the last penny , but an 82 could still be a stunning vehicle.

Salvage, flood or not wouldn't stop me if I wanted it. Some good parts there.

Let me know if you decide to go this route. I can’t swing buying the whole ‘82 but would be interested in your old tub.

From what I've seen the people who pay big bucks seem to pay attention to CarFax then how original a vehicle is. As for being a rare vehicle it was in the US but not around the world. Today there are more late 4X series being imported to the US all the time. To me finding a 83/84 LX model with A/C, power steering and five speed would be rare. LHD and FJ not a BJ even rarer, if they were even made. Unlike classic muscle car that bring big bucks that were made so most of them are here. Which means there is a world market out there that got huge numbers of them. Because of the short VIN on imports is no CarFax to show a history. These also usually have far less emissions. I read where California has started to refuse to register diesel post 1980? But how it works for gassers I'm not sure.

This sat in water long enough to get into everything. It's been a long time for it have damaged all the wiring, electronics, switches and running gear. Still having the original floor mat is great, having water trapped under it for months is not. Down side of having a newer rarer FJ40 imported to the US electronics are harder to find. I would plan on replacing everything electrical except the wiring harness.

Bump

I see it's currently up to $6,500 which is probably as high as I would go if I was seriously interested, age and time to work on it are against me.

Anyone here bidding on this?

Would you be interested in selling your 82 frame? I was planning on bidding on the 82 because I need a frame, and would part the rest.
