Nice Pig!

No pics of the front end?

FYI: you can link to your photos so they show up in your thread:

I'm surprised I forgot to shoot the front end. Will do some time today. Looks about the same as the rest of the truck, a few dings on hood.

I was told it needs a new exhaust. For more info:

Re comment on price: What would be a value more in line with your expectations? Of course, I've got about $40K into the beast from purchase price to all the work I've had done since I bought it in 1995. This is one source of my spouse's visceral hatred whenever I mention my lil' green and white mistress.

My biggest regret is not storing it always under cover and staying vigilant with any rust. Have been way too busy the last five years to really be a good owner.

very very pretty pig and nice paint scheme.........was wondering what the chrome trim over the rockers is covering; do you have any pix taken from underneath showing the insides of the rockers?.......floor pans, body to frame mounts?........pig owners are worried more about what they can't see than what they can see; newer pigs seem to be a lot more prone to the rust bug than earlier ones.....I inherited a 79 pig from a disgusted owner who had been burned buying a nice paint, bondo and fiberglass job over a very rusty pig............all 8 pillars were totally gone, just my 0.02

my biggiest issues is the rust we can see. I know that my rockers are rusting from the inside out. and you have yours covered by that chrome stuff. also with the exposed metal right around the rear passenger tail light, and the rust in the wheel wells. It just really scares me to think what I cannot see.

At most right now I would offer you $7k. at most.

The paint is original; the decorative is pin-striping. Don't know why paint is gone on roof above passenger compartment! No rust there, however.

I inspected under the rocker trim and did not see evidence of any serious rust; will document with photo. Worst spot is driver's side where I neglected to deal with hairline fracture in rail and water has poured in there over time when I was totally not paying attention.

As I've noted, this vehicle has resided in Tucson, Arizona forever. First 16 years of its life it was garaged. Wealthy owner who never used it (it had 12,000 miles when I purchased it in 1995). The rest of its life was either under carport, exposed or under Man-a-Fre FJ55 covers. Humidity here is nil. No exposure to winter salt or things of that sort, but still rust has reared its head. So from my inspection, virtually all evident rust is surface and more cosmetic. The underside is brown, of course, but I don't see any major rust.

There is one bad spot on passenger rear wheel well area that I neglected to spotlight in photos, but will, where it has rusted through.

My sense is that about $5K of detailed mechanical upgrades and a few weeks in a quality body shop would have this pig looking close to new for $10K. When I think about that and think about parting with it, I get nauseous. But my circumstances really don't permit me to pursue that course.

Nick.........GMTA= Great Minds Think Alike.........learn a lot from your teenagers:steer:

LOL mine arnt teenagers yet. they need another 9 years.

I do have to admit the under belly is nice.

Sorry, what do you mean by "superficial"?

Just took a good look at floorboards. Driver side is the worst, though certainly not rusted through. The rest look good; it's hard to just pull off the floormats (they're originals and are firmly in place). If I get a bit of time and can figure out a way to remove, will photograph, but quick inspection doesn't show much, if any, rust. Also looked up from underneath. Really, although this is just my opinion, major rust isn't an issue on this pig.

Regarding the rocker panels and the trim covering them:

Also took a really close look at this area of concern. There is a small gap that allows water, dirt, etc. to pass through. The decorative stuff is riveted on in several spots. But this gap allows for air flow.

Nice pig. i sold one with zero rust but the engine was not rebuilt for $8K. It was right hand drive tho. This was 6 months ago to give you an indication. I would never pay over $10K for anything with any rust but that's just my policy.

maybe if you pointed out what you got your 40K into then people would be more interested..... I for one would be interested......... :)

Will do. I bought in in 1995 for $12,000. Put about $25,000 into it since. Biggest single expenditure was a nose to tail re-do in 2001 by Bill's Toy Shop in Tucson. Engine rebuild, etc. But, that was seven years and 31,000 miles ago. Mainly I've just thrown money at it continuously to keep it in roadworthy condition. I've had it way down on the west coast of Baja, around the top of the Gulf of California, deep down in Sonora, southern Utah, from Tucson to California and back several times. It's never let me down in the outback, but usually has some major problem about the time i hit the city limits. I will, however, attempt to more accurately summarize the work performed.

I'm sure my price is too high, indicative of my true lack of desire to part with my pig. She's a mighty fine specimen. Have a Land Cruiser collector in Tucson very interested; he doesn't want to come see her because he knows he'll have to write me a check and drive it away! Make me a offer North of $11K and I may begin to wince in earnest.
