Long time lurker, first time classifieds poster.
As I know many of you will understand, it's killing me to write this. Parting ways with my equally sweet and intolerable piggy (read: Rhino) after 12 joyous and heart-wrenching years. I can no longer afford to give her the time or money she deserves. I wish that I could leave her in a more dignified state (and for the $8k I originally purchased her for). Older restoration showing her age, but nice by many standards.
Mostly unmolested - possible restoration or solid donor.... makes my heart heavy to say that.
Documented receipts for the last 15+ years

Here's the good:

1979 - Last year of 55 body style before the 60s rolled in
She's a late model '79 Cali. All California emissions all intact. Passed smog last November w/ no issues at all.
Daily driver for the last 6 months. Starts right up every time - needs a warm up, losing power - see "the bad" below.
J**p paint code - still looks pretty nice - Magesiumy grey-green
All glass intact and chip free, tough the tint on the rear windows is a bit bubbly/ scratched.
Factory AC - not currently working, but intact
Factory PS - works great, always.
Factory Front Disc Brakes
Factory 4 speed
Solid body with some dubious repair.
American racing alloys with 4 brand, spanking new 31" BFG ATs. ($1000 w/ transferable road hazard insurance @ 4 Wheel Parts)
New rancho Shocks all around
New Front brake pads
Gas tank removed, Boiled, Rhinoed and reinstalled
Radiator removed, re-cored, re-coated and reinstalled

PO removed gutter-rusted roof and installed a really nicely done full snap soft-top and arched cross braces - though the edging has gotten a bit brittle over the years.
Isuzu (?) buckets up front - driver side has air-ride, which is nice with ton and a half leaf springs.
Interior is respectable. entire floor covered with rubber matting where carpet might be. Heavy duty floor mats over that. Floors are solid.
Nice Specter dash cover - looks like new - never lifted to see what was under.
4 speaker tape deck/radio works...except for the tape deck.
Hella fog lamps

Brand new clutch
New heat shield and riser for rebuilt carb
New clutch master and slave cylinders

Specter crate 2F with less than 20k miles - professionally installed, but now in need of love.

Extra Parts:
2nd carb (brand name?)
Original skid plate
Water Pump
Misc. Other bits
Maybe a 2F without a head if the shop still has it.

In my care, all work performed by: Me, Mudrak, Yodaman, 4 Wheel Parts and Oakland Autoworks.

Here's the bad:
Was losing power - took her to Yodaman last week- Compression readings for 2 cylinders below norm. Likely blown head gasket, but didn't investigate further.
Failed Brakes - Rear lines leaking enough to remove stopping power. drums need complete rebuild - or conversion to disc.
Rear axle seals need to be replaced when dealing with brakes.
Bubbles in body work surfacing
Window tinting losing its lustre
Rear window activation requires a willing partner. (key activation has worked in a miraculous sort of way a few times in my experience)
Front door locks can be finicky.
Main gas tank vent has a cut in it - so filling the tank full results in loss of really precious resources. i watch the gauge while filling and stop around 3/4.
Rear view mirror fell off. I have it.

I know you guys know your stuff, and I appreciate your comments and advice. I wish I could keep her, but my pockets aren't deep enough and my time and skills are limited. I have more pictures of her in her element, but I thought I would start with some phone pics taken tonight. Thanks.

Sorry, forgot to mention that my 55 is located in Oakland, CA.

Well, I would like to have a chat with Specter - for more reasons than that, but it was almost 10 years ago that the motor was installed. Granted, with the low mileage and my upkeep, none of this should have happened, but I don't know how much of a case I have with a non working odometer. It's just kinda sad all around.

Hi Tucker,

I've posted a slew of images here: Index of /cruiser

It's an old-school directory, but i tried to give the pics meaningful names.
for some reason a bunch of them are displaying sideways or upside down... sorry about that.
I'll try and figure it out, but hopefully it gives an impression.

Thanks for the interest.

Hello...

Tucker, do you have any interest, or is your roof just falling off? Hope the pics were helpful either way.

I'm bummed. I was really hoping someone here would show some love... or at least strike up a conversation. I'm open to offers. I'd hate to have to donate her, but it may come to that. Sigh. Where's Jay Leno or another philanthropic, car loving kazillionaire when I need one.

I think it's a really great pig, but it would need to be my daily driver and I'm worried about that soft top here where it gets so hot :(. If I could fly out and drive it home it would probably be in my driveway, hard to convince the wife I need to buy another project though ;(. Don't give her away though ... Still thinking on it -

Tucker

Thanks, all. I had some decent interest, but nothing has come of it yet. I lowered the price to $3500 OBO. Still wishing I had bought a place with a giant garage or barn... though, in truth, I would rather have somebody take her on now, instead of me waiting a few years to put her right.
